Should I get this coat? (How about the teal one I just added? )

I want to replace this coat that I wore for the past two years. It is too tight in the torso and uncomfortable when I wear too many layers underneath. I think the color washes me out, but I like the idea of having a light color when it is so dreary outside. I found a possible substitute, plus some warm boots to go with it. I think the color is better, it is light but it doesn't seem to wash me out like the other one. It is also a size larger but I still think it looks fine, plus I purposely tried it with several layers underneath and it was still comfortable. What do you think? Thanks for your feedback.

The fit looks really good on you and the length is also better (warmer). It's tough to tell about the colour but it seems to harmonize with your hair. I like the quilted pattern on the coat. Go for it!

Any opinion on the boots?

The coat fit seems good to me. The color is lighter than I might go--if you wanted something cheery, might go with something plummy or even teal.
But, I get the usefulness of a nice neutral metallic that is not draining like black.

The boots are a bit Sasquatch for me, but could be fun!

Unfrumped, I tried on a plum/Aubergine coat. I don't think it looked as good. My friend who was with me, and the sales person didn't like it as much. Here is a picture. What do you think? It's longer, but the color was much darker.
I know the boots in the first set of pics look a bit Sasquatch, but I kind of like them because they are so warm. Warm is what I am looking for, functional, not necessarily pretty. I tried on several pairs and this pair seemed best, and they weren't black which was one of my requirements.

Good contrasting for decisions. Hmm, would have to be a much lighter "color" , wouldn't it--very soft colors and not jewel tones. Your color palette is right in between light and dark!

I like the coat in 1/2 much better than your old one and plum is probably not one of your best colors. It looks like you need warmer tones.
Not a fan of the boots, but that's just a personal bias. What about a coat in a light/mid-tone color with "fur" trim closer to the color of the boots for more cohesion between them?

Like your new coat option here - I like to have a lighter coloured coat to wear in the winter for just the reasons you describe.

Re: the boots - my own "rule" is not to have two different types of "fur" going on at once . If I have fur on my hood or cuffs or whatever, I always wear a plain boot - and vice versa. To me - it gets into TMGO territory , especially when other components like scarves, mitts, hat etc started getting added in.

I'd go for a plainer pull-on boot, personally.

I like the new coat! My coloring is on the light side too, I own an oatmeal color winter puffer coat and I really like being light among darks and blacks in winter Only downside - regular washing/dry cleaning.

I like the color of the coat for you and I think the fit and shape is good-- not a fan of the boots.

I like the direction of the quilting in the purple coat better because it gives you a waist. The first one with the diamond quilting makes you look wider than you are.

I like the one you have now for that freezing.

Are you set on Creen stone? How about other brands?

I like Sasquatch.

The new coat looks good, with the quilting pattern keeping it more trim and fitted looking while providing room for layers. The old coat seems baggy-draggy on you with the exaggerated curved pockets. I like the light color on you, especially. The soft cream is fab, prefer it highly over any shade of plum, but I prefer neutral coats since there is usually lots of color in my outfits.

Boots: kind of cool, IMO, since the long tall leather type don't really appeal to me. I may have to looks for furry ones!

I'm voting no primarily based on color -- this reads like a cool-cooler- toned taupe and I think more warmth would be better with your skin and hair. Light to medium gold or bronze? Now we're talking!

[Like bj1111, I also like the quilting pattern on the purple better (ETA...not that I'm rec'ing the purple) but I know it's hard to get everything in one package.]

ps Technical question -- How many/what kind of layers do you generally wear beneath this? Maybe you need a warmer coat so as to be able to wear lighter layers indoors? [Though I know "indoors" varies -- I for one have a very cold house!]

Vix, I'm with you. SF, I'm not sure about the champagne color. I get what you mean about wanting a lighter color for winter, but I'm not sure this is an A+. Would you wear a brighter scarf near your face?

I like the LisaP rule about fur up top and on bottom, although I totally understand the need for warm softness in the winter. Are there other boots with less prominent fluff?

Ooh bronze would be lovely. I have a long bronze down coat that is years old that I adore - it's a bit of moody winter shimmer. Not sold on this color for you. A little more saturation would be better.

I so appreciate everyone's feedback. I can look around and see what I can find. I am not committed to either the coat or the boots. The salesperson is holding it for me but they will do this for a while because I am a good customer. I can definitely hunt. I love the idea of bronze. I wonder if I can find anything in that color?

I understand the double fur issue. It's like wearing animal print in two places, something I wouldn't do.

I definitely need a real warm coat that I can layer underneath. I want to be able to wear a cotton turtleneck, a thick sweater over that and then the coat. I can't do that easily with the old coat if the sweater Is thick.. I already have a light weight down coat. It gets very cold outside! Some places I work are cold inside also.

I love the overall style and fit of the coat. I'm not here or there on the color. I do like it lots more than your old one. Is it possible that the coat comes in other colors that are not available in-store but that the store could order for you?

I don't mind the boots at all. I live where it is very cold, and finding good boots is TOUGH. I think these boots look better than many boots I see in my neck of the woods during the winter.

Yeh - I agree with those who are advising a different color for the coat - something with more depth (perhaps a mid-tone green or cranberry?) If you love the boots and they serve their purpose, then go for it.

Staysfit, there is a Land's End down Tulip Hem Coat in a shade called Antique Spruce that might fill the bill: without the detachable hood it looks quite dressy; with it it's sporty and warm, and the tie belt would accentuate your narrow waist. The color is close to your eye color--check it out!

I was going to suggest a forest green, too, if you find one. I like the shape of the coat, but would like to see a brighter color for you.

I just found a teal coat at Nordstrom, and it's on sale. I'm not sure I like the quilting as much as I like the Creenstone, but it appears to be water resistant, which is important, and it also appears to be warm. I think this color will be good on me, I tend to look good in medium/dark teals. What do you think? Would this work?

That teal color coat is amazing and I rather like the way the quilting looks in the picture. Plus the hood is detachable if you are concerned about too much fur. I own a pair of Tecnica (Skandia) boots and love them. Very warm and I receive many compliments when I wear them.

Colette, when I looked online from your link, the beige pair is the other pair of Tecnica's that I tried on. They are super warm. The beige boots were very furry and they were wider on my foot. I would have to wear them with thick socks, which I hate. The dark boots were a better fit.

I am leaning towards ordering the teal coat to see how it is. According to the size chart, I should be a small, but I wonder if I should size up and get the medium? It's so hard to know? I also wonder if the sleeves will be long enough? They look like they may be short on the model. I want them to be long because my hands get very cold. I don't like to have a gap between my sleeve and whatever is covering my hands. (If you look at the Creenstone the sleeves are exactly the length I like for a winter coat.)

Are you ok with real fur? You could call or use the on-line help to find out how long the sleeves are. I would also ask what the ratio is of down to feathers as feathers tend to work through the fabric. The teal color looks very pretty.

I much prefer the blue for you (and hopefully it'll be more or less that color in real life!).

If you can swing it, I'd order both sizes you're contemplating and compare -- or go by the size chart and pick the S.

My thought is that as it's on a GOOD sale, in a color that flatters many, and is now on YLF which has a ton of lurkers, sizes may be sold out quite soon!

I would definitely try out the Nordie's coat since it won't really cost you anything with the free shipping and free returns. If you can find a store that carries it in-store (by using the online search engine thingie), you could call that store and ask the salesperson how the sizing runs, or maybe she could take some measurements for you.

Although you're not crazy about the quilting on the teal coat, I think it's worth it to try at least for the color. You might find that you like the color so much that you're not willing to keep the other coat, even though you might return the Nordie's one also. And sometimes things don't look as prominent as they do in the online pictures, so the quilting might be less noticeable in person.
