Man Repeller is dressing classically New York. You can see LOTS of gals wearing exactly what she is on the street. Only most of them are doing it without her wit or her budget.
As for other people's unsolicited opinions, they can KMA - although annagybe said it more politely. It's one thing for me to ask and get feedback which I can then process. It's another for the peanut gallery to let me know that I look Amish, or wear too much black, or point out that I have a zit. Or, in fact, offer any sort of criticism. As for my mother, I have long given up expecting a compliment that doesn't make me wonder what I did in infancy. (Best comment, out of the blue: "You know, if you want a nose job, I would probably pay for it." Wha?) As for other women, if they're saying something rude, it's probably untrue, and they automatically don't count.
Of course, I always welcome "That's, er, torn in back" or "your hair is doing something weird with the gel" or the discreet tooth or chin tap. That's just good manners.
