Shopping Formula - YouLookFab Forum

It's that time of year: colder weather, crowded malls, lots of errand running. I've decided to take a formula approach to dressing for these activities. If I can, I'll begin trying to overlap these with my holiday capsule.

Formula:
Skinnies or straights
Booties or boots -- depending on weather
Layered torso, with a scarf for warmth -- no coat, unless it's brutally cold.

1/2: Worn to shop and to a movie. The jacket is a great "gear" moto -- mixed media with fleece and channeled nylon. Details are very hard to photograph.
These are my grey ponte pants from ----- WalMart. These are completely pill free and the warmest of my ponte pants. Go figure.

3: Burgundy cord blazer and skinnies. Red Munro booties are so comfy!

4. Grey sweatshirt cardi -- this makes a great topper for shopping.

5. BF with booties and navy sweater. The closest I come to "RATE"

These outfits are more casual that my core style, but during this season, practicality with a little verve thrown in seems to be the best choice.

Great outfits! I love your scarves. I always have a hard time finding scarves that are interesting and not maudlin.

During the holiday bustle, so far I have been wearing my frumpy clothes--long skirt with drawstring waist and plain, boring knit top. It is because they are the most comfortable clothes that I own. They are frumpy mostly because they are too big, but due to their construction, they can't be altered. Oh well! I am certainly getting my CPW out of them. ;^)

I don't have a 'holiday bustle' capsule yet, but I have been thinking about what to wear to a couple of upcoming events. I may even step way out and wear heaals with my white skinnies! A picture will probably be forthcoming soon.

You look so comfortable, cozy and put together here, Beth Ann. How fun would your red jeans be with some of these combinations. I don't remember the boots in 4 - did you find the tall pair your have been looking for?

I usually wear my most comfy flats, jeans and a knit top. I live in hotter conditions so I don't need toppers or boots. That's my uniform and FFBO.

Love the outfit in 4. I just wear comfy clothes and shoes.

You look so pretty in turquoise! My formula is similar: skinnies in various colors, neutral tee, a pullover or moto, and warm scarf. The average temp is about to go up by about 30 degrees for me so we'll see, though Angelenos carry on something fierce when it dips to 65!

Looking good and formulas are so restful!

Sometimes a gal has to be practical. I really like 3 & 4!

Love all of these! It's a great silhouette on you & leaves you plenty of room to play with colours/textures/etc. I opt out of the holiday bustle entirely, hehe; for presents I either go the homemade route (which means I started earlier) or online stuff. Malls scare me.

Gigi: A belt or a scarf would be a way to dress up your uniform. Sometimes, comfort is first!

Neel: I think I need the cold temps to keep me moving through the season!

Pil: These are older boots, Pil. There my almost-gear snow boots, but Khombu. They're dark grey with a snakeskin pewter metallic finish. I love them, but they're lined and casual, and won't suit my work days!

Adelfa: I spent 4 years in the San Gabriel Valley. Good thing I moved to Tulsa before moving back to the upper midwest. It gave me time to re-acclimate to the cold! If you live near the mountains, as I did, you might still have cool nights.

E: Your approach to Christmas sounds lovely! The outlet mall closest to me is a full mile if you walk the circuit. Twenty years ago, they were still farming that land.

Wow, #1 is fantastic! I love the scarf and the gear moto, and this combination seems tailor made for mall shopping, where you don't want to be lugging around a coat (heavy or otherwise) and yet you might need some protection for the occasional blast of cooler air near doorways. The scarf seems tossed on in that casually elegant "oh, this old thing?!?" kind of way. If I were a SA I would immediately come to your beck and call (in the hopes of asking you where you purchased that great item.)

The other outfits are equally great and I love your uniform. Mine is pretty similar for indoor activities. For outdoors I add my puffer coat.

I love that your Wal*Mart pants are thick and pill-free. You look great in your shopping FFBOs.

Ah, yes, Suz, there is nothing like a puffer! I have a red one from Eddie Bauer that I love. This time of year, the formula is helping me "dress for battle," so to speak!
