Semi-OT: Show your "I Voted" Sticker Here!

In California we get a sticker when we vote. I'm a big ol' dork because even though I can't stand the campaigning and partisanship that goes along with it, I LOVE going into that voting booth and casting my vote! I get a little teary each and every time!

Washington is all vote by mail these days, so no stickers, sadly.

I voted early (a couple of weeks ago), so I no longer have my sticker. I hope every U.S. citizen votes!

I voted but didn't put my sticker on yet. I also got a Hershey's kiss candy.

In addition to voting myself, I had the great honor of accompanying one of my students today as she voted for the first time as a naturalized U.S. citizen. It was a really great moment for everyone.

Voted this morning. Shockingly, there was virtually NO line when we went at 8:15 this morning so we were in and out in less than 10 minutes.

I didn't keep the sticker, but trust me, I voted. At around noon. For some reason I never have more than a five-minute wait at my polling place. And for the first time I bothered to get (sort of) nicely dressed up for the occasion.

Argh, no smartphone, so no picture. Wearing my sticker though. Just imagine this sticker on top of my grey shirt dress worn with matching red Fluevog mary janes.

I was waiting at the polls before they opened this morning, and this is what our stickers looked like.
I wore mine to work today, and one of my patients, a young man with terrible disabilities from birth defects who was having surgery today commented on it, and said that he had made sure to vote early since he wouldn't be able to today due to his surgery.

I was so inspired by this young man who is nearly blind and in a wheelchair but takes his civic responsibility so seriously. I took my sticker off and stuck it on his hospital gown for all to see.

Vote by mail in Oregon, but I live so close to the election office that I walked mine over, in person, yesterday.
I really like vote by mail - it's more like an open book test and I can sit with my ballot & read up on all the measures & initiatives.

I voted. DD, age 19, was really steamed b/c she was disenfranchised. She requested an absentee ballot THREE (3) times and was never sent one. After the second request she even called and was told to request again online. She took the time to research and complete her sample ballot. Too bad because her vote could have really made a difference in the local and maybe state elections. She is attending college out of state, so she can't just pop into the polling place to vote. Now she will have to re-register since she did not vote in the general election.

She is on some rolls, however, because she sure received all that campaign *literature*, and yesterday she got her second jury summons.

I'm such a geek that I not only collected my sticker but transferred it from my running jacket to my outfit for the day after I went home, showered and changed!

DonnaF, that is awful! I wonder what happened. I would consider writing to the Board of Elections, as well as a letter to the editor of your local newspaper. These things need to be publicized -- loudly.

My stepson missed his first vote, unfortunately. His absentee ballot didn't arrive in time, and he had to go out of state last week. With the storm coming in, we had to leave town early, which mucked things up too. He's bummed, but we are a solidly blue state, which means that his Presidential vote was pretty well covered. Still, I believe in voting no matter what.

Janet: fabbest voter ever. Hey, I was even dressed better than everyone else I came into contact with inside the polling station. It's kind of casual around here (which I like, actually--people's hearts and minds are in the right place in my neighborhood).
