hubs says i can't complain about anything political if i didn't vote...and we all know i love to complain. so, i voted!

still waiting for my hershey's kiss.

One of my friends complained (jokingly) that her new polling place did not have a baked goods table. I was wondering where these polling places are that *do* have baked goods! Sign me up! Seems some enterprising Girl Scouts could have had some big sales today.

oooo...tagalongs....mmmmm.

We took the kids with us after woork so I let them have the stickers. The lovely volunteer giving them out said he had no stickers today, just giving out Masters' in Political Science. I love the voting volunteers (when they are not assaulting me during my raking to ask if I need a ride to the voting locations). Happy Democracy US!

Our polling place is inside a school. So the baked goods were for fundraising. But jeez, the inflation! A dollar for a brownie! But sales were brisk

I voted for the first time in the US, and my husband made sure it was a very special, memorable experience.

First, we went out to lunch at a local Chinese restaurant and filled out our ballots; then, we sat in the car and discussed how we voted and why (no, we did not agree on everything); finally, we went to the HIghland Baptist Church and voted. I had the best afternoon ever!

And, I'm proud to report that I am also pleased with how I dressed!

My state votes by mail only (I voted in person for the first and last time in the 2008 election), so I missed out on the stickers and cookies.

Y'all got baked goods?? Sheesh, now I'm far less satisfied with my voting experience!

Actually, I'm rather happy that I got myself up and out to do this.

For vote by mail states I wonder about how that impacts homeless people...

Hmmm....for some reason they didn't give me a sticker. But it could be because the counting machine jammed with the person in front of me and a policeman rushed over.
I had 4 kids with me ( no school today ) and two were of the opposite opinion of mine. We all went to lunch and ice cream afterwards and no one argued..though we talked about politics. It was nice.....LOL !

You sure run into loads of politically opinionated kids, Isabel! LOL

Jenava, it's definitely imperfect but they address this on the voter registration page: http://www.kingcounty.gov/elec.....ation.aspx

"Non-traditional residential addresses/homeless voters

The Washington Constitution doesn’t require a "residence" as a condition of voting as long as a person meets all other registration requirements. (Article VI Section1)

Voters who lack a traditional residential address can register at the shelter, park, motor home, intersection or other identifiable location they consider their residence. This location will be used to determine which precinct they will vote in. (RCW 29A.08.112 effective 2005)

Along with your residential address, you must also provide a valid mailing address. An accurate, valid mailing address is essential in order to receive ballots and election information on time. This can include a post office box, address of a friend or relative, shelter, or general delivery at a local post office."

i love how washington makes an effort not to disenfranchise the homeless.

on the other hand, i would miss going to a polling place and catching up with election officers once every two years...one of whom lives two doors away and this is the only time we see each other.

making an effort to go to a designated place at a designated time fits the way i envision my responsibility to protect my rights...it requires me to expend (a bit of) effort to honor the hardships that others had to go thru to win or safeguard those rights. as an immigrant and a woman, the right to vote is one of the most precious.

getting verklempt...how 'bout them cubs?

Another Washingtonian voter-by-mail here. I sent my ballot in quite a while back

They ran out of English stickers! My mom says this doesn't actually say I voted but that I received a receipt?!! What?!! Lol. But it's what I got

rachy, i like those shoes and covet your blouse.

It was in the low 80s today so my sticker (which looks like RunnerChick's) went on a white tee shirt. No picture, my camera batteries died.

Ran into the librarian, the assistant librarian and the convenience store owner. No wait in line. This is small town living at its finest. Except we didn't have baked goods. I'm going to recommend that to the librarians who are also the election workers.
