Satin. Are you wearing it?

I have seen a lot more satin in the past few two or three years than I've seen outside of my old high school prom pictures. I wear skirts, and I see a number of bias cut satin skirts in particular. Something I may have worn when younger and slimmer. But it got me thinking - is this a fabric that you are wearing, or that others around you are wearing? I find it staticky, hot, wrinkly, and unflattering. Perhaps I am missing something? Somebody must be wearing all of these garments I'm seeing online...

No, I don’t wear it because I generally avoid wearing synthetic fabrics.

No I am not. I do like the slip skirts and dresses but the fabric is not great for my work - too delicate.

In the 90s and 00s I wore satin shirts with black pants and jeans.

You can get silk satin as a natural fibre but it’s expensive.

One item, and only one item. The fabric is fussy and shows splotches if it gets wet. That said, I am wearing said item!

I bought a satin skirt last summer. Texture is lovely, color is one I don't often wear, but it goes with many of my tops. Style is similar to the one Carla shows.

It hangs in the front of my closet where I see it first thing every morning. I've never worn it. I don't even remember how it looks on me, but I do like looking at it every day.

Sigh. Another of "those" items. So I can't answer your question, but I'm going to try it on and take a photo--tomorrow.

I would but current lifestyle doesn’t justify it. Ideally a skirt would be nice though!

One satin slip skirt: my beloved reversible slip skirt from the dearly departed Vetta Capsule brand (one side is cheetah print, and if you flip it inside out it's a solid gold color.). It gets a little static-y but not too bad, and I've been wearing it roughly every other or third week. I think it's more forgiving since it's two layers of fabric, and the printed side is easier since any splotches are camouflaged.

Sal, yes, absolutely silk satin is available and I love it. I have two summer tops in silk satin and have been looking for a skirt (not a bias cut) for long time.

I understood the question is about polyester fabric.

Silk satin yes, if it is heavy enough to drape well. Boden had some silk satin skirts.

I have a synthetic blend slip skirt like Carla’s but have maybe worn it twice since I bought it years ago . I hesitate to offer a negative opinion on a fabric or style as it can be problematic to do so .

I have a soft spot for those bias-cut satin slip skirts like Runcarla and Angie show. I have a silk one -- it's pink with a multicolored (green, teal, etc.) paisley print, quite versatile across seasons. I mostly wear it for dressy, but I actually really like this style of skirt dressed down with tennies and an oversized sweater. I don't really fancy the polyester versions but I'm a natural fiber snob in general so...

I also have a silk satin slip-style skirt in black that I have to be feeling good about my shape to wear — it’s not a terribly shiny satin, and it resists wrinkles pretty well, but the bias cut can be less forgiving than other cuts for me.

I had a favorite silk satin blouse in a gorgeous emerald green that I finally gave away because I hadn’t fit into it in several years, and it’s a dressy piece so it never got a lot of wear. In general, satin feels a bit too dressy for my usual day to day life so I don’t invest in it often.

Ha! The first thing I thought of was DD's prom dress, which is a sort of satiny slip dress. I can't think of anything I wear off hand, but maybe there is a skirt or shirt somewhere .

I don't have any currently but if I find a silk or silk blend skirt I will buy it. I don't think bias cut would work with my current body, so I'd prefer a different cut.

I think you can get satin items in viscose too.

I have a satin slip skirt. I wear it underneath my Zara lace skirt. I doubt I will wear it solo because it is a bias cut, which is tricky for me. But fine as an underlayer. Satin or silk gives a nice sheen which you can’t achieve with cotton.

Mine are silk satin - the fabrication and cut makes a huge difference to how bias-cut items sit on the body. A true bias cut skims over the body but uses more fabric which is why some bias-cut skirts are very flattering and others show every lump and bump. I am not as slim as I was in the 90's either, but it is fun to wear these items which are similar to what I was wearing back in the day!

I have a pair of loose fit satin pants that I am quite fond of. They don't cling or show too much, and they're the only satin item I own (excluding lingerie, like actual slips to wear under skirts and dresses). But, generally speaking, satin slip skirts or slip dresses are a big NO for me. They just tend not to flatter me the way I'd prefer. And satin tops get warm if they're made of polyester, so that makes them winter tops, but they get staticky under coats, so they tend not to work very well for me, either.

Like others, I'm very excited about my silk bias-cut midi skirt. Mine is from Quince and it's perfect. I don't know if their weave is technically satin, charmeuse, or neither, but it's a dull shine at most. I have a few of their silk shirts, too. I'm not a big fan of satin aside from that, partly because many synthetics make my skin crawl a little (in a literal way - idiosyncratic sensory preference).

I think I would be concerned about anything wet marking a synthetic satin item?

I have a few lace trim satin camis that were very popular around 10 to 15 years ago. They’ve been back on the shelves recently but mostly tend to be cropped with a looser fit. I still have some tight, stretchy corset type ones from Victoria’s Secret which are super practical since they have built in bra cups.

I also have a pair of pants that fit like leggings from Bershka. The have a hidden zipper closure on the side and a decent amount of stretch.
I have another pair of skinny fit black satin pants that button up the from and aren’t quite as comfortable but they’re still in great shape considering I’ve had them for almost 15 years and used to wear them very often. I can’t remember where I bought them and the tags were cut off long ago. They must have caused some kind of skin irritation on my lower back which happens pretty often when the tag’s fabric is especially stiff or thick. I managed to find a photo of a very similar model in my archives.

I have a few slip skirts from years ago (thus not silk mines are heavy enough to drape well and printed -tan dots/zebra on black, a watercolored big plaid and one wider spaced bunchy floral so not that delicate like an uni) but seldom use them and only for dressy. Oh, I have one cream and bigger-like patchy- animal which I wear with a cream sweatshirt for casuals in fall, too.

I have a satin slip skirt and a couple of satin blouses for the holiday season. I don't think I would add more, but enjoy the pieces I have!

Sorry, didn't expect to post and run yesterday. I can see that if I were to dip my foot into the pool that the fabric selected makes a lot of difference. I have had a few silk items in the past that I did really enjoy, though it probably requires more care and maintenance than I may be in the mood for now.

I am not downing all satin. I was simply figuring there was something I was missing because there's a lot of inventory out there that others must be enjoying. I also think that the items I would like skew dressier than what I'm wearing these days.

A couple other thoughts is that I might be happier with the fabric if a skirt wasn't a bias cut. I don't think that would work toward me feeling my best. I do also enjoy the look of some silk shirts but I don't often wear button down shirts either.

Maybe this is a fabric I'd need to see in person in a store to try on for a better chance of success. A lot of the finds above are very attractive, and I can see the appeal of them for their wardrobes.

I own one midaxi satin skirt in black/charcoal (depending on the light). It is versatile for parties, as it can be worn with various tops and toppers. My skirt is at least 15 years old. A timeless, elegant style with simple lines.

I like satin and silk skirts, dresses, tops, etc. If I think II am going to sweat or spill I go for machine washable blends (hello j crew)

I have one silk satin print skirt. I think I would wear it more if it were knee length, not floor length. I will not buy polyester unless worn in cool or cold times of the year. 0therwise it’s too warm. I would love to have a satin bomber jacket.
