Joy - could you shorten the skirt if you want it at knee length?

I have several satin blouses that I wear with high-waisted black jeans for work. It's a nice blend of casual/fancy and makes me feel pretty in a medical environment where practicality and functionality are driving factors. I also own the Vince slip dress in black; I second what Bijou said about skirts and dresses being cut on the bias in order to be flattering. The Vince dress skims. I wear it with a cropped cashmere sweater over and white sneakers.

I have one piece, a vintage Tahari skirt. It’s an interesting sturdy fabric, structured rather than slinky but not quite as stiff as taffeta. It’s part of the dressy capsule, comes out once or twice a year. It’s full-length so completely impractical for daily life but great for occasional wear.

Well, I would have said no and rarely in my lifetime... but I have a wedding coming up at the end of September and just realized I will need to shop for it. Currently I have no interest in wearing anything fitted or sleeveless/strappy etc - I'm in a volume, opposite of body con phase. So this top caught my eye and I am hoping I can make it dressy-enough with black pants, dressy shoes (maybe leopard print ankle strap flats I have) and bag. Green is my colour and the satin finish (it's described as silk charmeuse) is what I am counting on to make it evening wear. Just ordered it so fingers crossed...

Good luck Jules. It's a pretty color.

No satin pieces in my closet right now but I have worn and enjoyed some satin blouses. Have been staying away from satin skirts/dresses since they can be a bit unforgiving.

I have one or two, but I rarely wear them for all the reasons mentioned above by others. I have learned never to say never about wearing specific categories of items because what I wear changes over time.

I tried it and didn't like it.
