Thanks to Sal for starting this line of thought! And thanks to whoever reminded me that a bolero can upgrade a plainish dress to something special. That made me think of this outfit as a hypothetical.

Cue last night... my 90 year old mom and I attended an IRL version of a Festival of Early Music dance and music program. We decided to dress up for it, since Mom has so many lovely dresses she has no occasion for.

So, in a hurry on a night after work, I was able to pull this together because I'd already thought about it. Fit-and-flare sleeveless dress (Dress Barn) with the faux-Persian-lamb bolero acquired as Mother of the Bride. I added black and white heels and put my hair up in a Gibson girl with some jewelled pins. Added my dad's gold watch and a red satin clutch from my sister.

Moms outfit: she wore an off-white shift dress with a gorgeous flowered blazer (the contents of her closet continually amaze me) and pearls.

The concert... was fun, but not live! They showed the live stream, recorded in Montreal, on a big screen! The next two programs we will live stream at home, from the sofa, with a cup of tea. Haven't decided if we will dress up again... (Although Mom only ever wears dresses).
