So I bought this completely ridiculous over the top headpiece for an upcoming wedding reception/party.

I just got an update today about the dress code.
"The attire is dress/ casual, no need for a tux! "
It will be much more casual than I originally thought. So I will returning the headband.
Even debating returning the BCBG dress.

That's so sad, but that seems to be the way it's going for me too these days. ---that everything is casual--not that I have to keep returning my headpiece, lol!

I don't even know what "Dress Casual" for a wedding means.

Does not compute.

If you really love it, I would opt for wearing the ridiculous headpiece with the BCBG dress. The dress is simple and has a fluid fit, it can pass for the Anna version of "Casual." You can always take off the apples for dancing later on in the night.

Aww, shoot, Anna. I would have lurved to have seen that cherry headpiece on you. If you absolutely adore it, though, I imagine that you would find some occasion(s) on which to wear it. This is *you* we're talking about. I like the dress. Is it something that would have a place in your fab wardrobe? I'm not sure what I'd wear to a "dress casual" wedding, but I think it gives you all kinds of wonderful opportunities. I'm going to eagerly await pics.

That headband is awesome in a surreal/Dada way. If you keep it you could go to a Masquerade ball with it sometime. Something Venetian or around Halloween. Or to a high-tea somewhere interesting and unusual. But it might make sense to return and then shop for something with equal spunk around another event.

Second, that dress seems doable for dress casual if you would like to keep it and wear it for other times as well.

Also, and this is where language really gets me, aren't 'dress casual' and 'casual dress' different things :p So confusing....

Hmm, I dunno. I would be inclined to keep the headband and wear it with a more casual dress. But I guess it depends on how much you want to stand out.

Also, is it an evening or a daytime wedding? If evening, I think you could get away with the whole shebang, dress code notwithstanding. I feel like being overdressed for a wedding is not really a bad thing the way being underdressed is.

The dress seems like it could work for a casual wedding if you dress down the accessories and shoes. I'm not sure about the headband though. It's fun and doesn't seem especially formal to me so it might still work.

It's a reception only. Actual wedding already happened. Starts at 5pm this Saturday. It's in a restaurant, but food is appetizers only, cash bar. DJ with dancing.
When I inquired a while ago about the dress code, bride said, "I'd wear slacks"
I do have a black slouchy DVF dress in my closet. Mid thigh length.

Ugh, slacks to a wedding? I wear slacks at work and generally don't like to wear them elsewhere. The DVF dress sounds more interesting than slacks.

Lol slacks. (who wears 'slacks' out dancing at night? Even a dive bar rates jeans ). I'd base the outfit I wore on the vibe of the venue then.

Oh Anna, what a bummer. My gut says screw "dress casual" and be you. We get so few opportunities to dress up these days - and it's always better to be overdressed than underdressed. Your outfit looks like a blast!

Anna, I wish I could have invited you to my wedding. The reception was supposed to be a glamorous, impossible to overdress event. One person wore jeans. Another person wore slacks. Ugh.

If there's a DJ and it's an evening party, surely you could at least break out the dress?

Weddings -- the last bastion of dressing up! So very sad. I do like your DVF a lot --- the new BCBG dress is versatile -- it would be terrific worn under a moto with RATE boots, or dressed up for the opera. You could still wear it.

I think anyone who knows you might be the teensiest bit scared to suggest you wear "slacks." Someone asked me to dress like a Pastor's wife once. Once. I teased my hair to heaven and wore head to toe purple.

Split the difference? DVF dress and cherry headpiece. I really like the headpiece. Luckily I didn't invest in shoes for this which I considered.

Love the BCBG dress and the headband. Gorgeous both of them! I do love the DVF dress a lot too. I do think you should keep the BCBG dress even if you don't keep the headband, but surely there may be something in the future to wear it to?

OMG, that headpiece is so amazing!!!! And so is the dress. What an outfit that would have been. It makes me so mad that there is almost nowhere to dress up these days. ARGHHHH!!!! Where's the fun in that?

I do think the DVF is also an incredible dress. And looks spectacular on you. So you could wear the dress instead and keep the headband. Or just keep both. Life is short.
