Recs for spring/summer tops for busty apple

I am a full chested apple shape who wears size XL in most stores like Loft, BR etc. but I usually have to go up to size 18 in pants. What kind of tops should I be looking at for springsummer. I have absolutely no clue.

Hi Donna --

Bumping this up for you, but to help others search/comment can you remind us what your other shape modifers are and answer a few more questions?

* In 2D/when you look straight-on in the mirror, are your hips wider than your shoulders or vice versa?

* Do you like wearing scoop/V necks? (my usual preference when downplaying my upper half, but I like options to protect that skin from sun when I'm too lazy to sunscreen up)

* Any preference re arm coverage? [Or color ranges, or prints vs solids?]

Thanks for bumping my post up. When I look in the mirrow my hips are wider than my shoulders. I generally wear v necks and scoop necks because of my large bust. I do not like sleeveless tops unless I wear a layer on top.. I defintely like jewel tones because I have fair skin and I do not mind prints. Thanks for helping.

My Mom has this type of figure and she looks great in sweater sets! I know this concept isn't the most trendy, but if you paired a twin set with cute Bermudas or a pencil skirt or straight-legged trousers, it would look great. I think having two separates in the same shade on top is flattering.

Also, if you match your top to the bottom, it will have the visual effect of lengthening your torso and legs and not calling so much attention to the upper half. If you wear a bright top and dark pants, it will have the opposite effect. It will draw the eyes to the upper half, minimizing the bottom. For a busty apple, you could try bright bottoms and a dark top to get the reverse effect, but again you are cutting your body in half with high contrast colors. That is why I am a big fan of tonal dressing where the top and bottom are closely matched.

From another plus sized busty apple, I will tell you tops and blouses are the absolute hardest clothing item for me. In the three other seasons I give them shape by adding a topper. Summer is too hot for that. This is why I wear dresses almost exclusively in the summer. How do you feel about frocks?

I haven't looked lately at Ann Taylor Loft (I am slightly opposite than you - shoulder and bust larger than hips) since the tops there seem to be running smaller lately (could just be me) but I do like Old Navy and Gap for fit and summer styles.
How warm does it get where you are? I saw nice 3/4 sleeve lightweight peasant tops at ON in fun colors.
Lands End and Talbots are great resources (sometimes on the preppy side - not sure what your style is) and have a lot of summer things and even their sleeveless is good for covering bra straps and things I appreciate that myself.
