Realisation about my style journey

I'm going through all my picture folders at the moment to get some overview and everything in order (40.000 pics and it's chaos) and just now I was looking at all the pictures in my YLF directory. And I realised something that I should have known but forgot - I've already come a long way. I've said that I felt like I didn't get anywhere or didn't get where I wanted to be fast enough in some recent posts. But seriously, looking through these pictures I realised that I'm way too critical. Because the development in my outfits over the last three years is spectacular!

So, I guess I just wanted to say, don't be too hard on yourself. It's not a race.

Excellent therapeutic advice, Astrid. I haven't been here very long but really enjoy your outfits and analysis. I get frustrated myself, but have to remember I've made progress too.

Thanks Pil! I'm happy you enjoy my outfits. I think looking at all the outfits from other people in general and posting myself helped so much. I would say I had absolutely no feel for fashion or style (or fit!) before I found YLF. I've always wanted to dress as fashionably as my peers and never quite succeeded.

Ceit, I guess it's because it's a slow development, it's not as obvious from one month to the next. When you look at it after some time it's really obvious. Like when you haven't seen a child for a while and it's SO grown up suddenly.

I was just about to post something about "am I the only one who just wants to get to that sweet spot of personal style RIGHT NOW?!" I think people who are into style get into ruts more and are wayyy more impatient.

Also, thank you for putting style journey in your title. For some reason that just makes me feel all tingly all over. I'm excited for you that you had that epiphany! It was very helpful.

Astrid, you have fantastic style. Killer style!!! And yes, there has been enormous development. Even in the last few months when your budget has been so tight you have made spectacular strides. You have a genuine sense of what looks good on you and what you like, which is so much more than I had at your age. I just love seeing how you have grown!!

Sharon, I agree that "style journey" is really a wonderful term. I think it really illustrates the whole idea of YLF, for everyone to have fun with fashion. No matter at which point of the journey you are. I'm glad I got a reminder of that!

Astrid, I couldn't agree more. It is not a race and we are our own worst critics. What I am finding is that the learning is in one sense steady and incremental, while at the same time there are epiphanic moments ( I think I just made up a new word).
Once again, the power of the photographic image is demonstrated.

You have wonderful style, Astrid. It's come quite a long way, I agree. And I love having your presence here as someone young (meaning it's very logical you'd be in style flux), and with a definite budget to challenge you, not to mention weather and other challenges, such as with your winter coat. Your successes and difficulties are so relatable here, and I really appreciate when you post one of your killer looks, because the evolution is really apparent. And I haven't seen pics of how you may have dressed in the past. I just get that sense from reading your intelligent, self-aware posts.

Thanks Mochi. I was a very sporty girl - wearing jeans, sneakers and loose t-shirts. When I tried to dress up I just had no idea about proportions and so on, it always looked a bit off.

Love the reminder that it is a journey and not a race. Sometimes it is too easy to get caught up in "finishing" something when there is really no end.

Absolutely! I think sometimes we have to settle in to a new phase in the style journey before we make more changes. I know that's true for singing, too. The plateaus are valuable for building consistency and preparing the ground for more development.

Such a great realization. Sometimes we are looking too close. It's when we back away that we can see the progress. You look amazingly different than your photo Astrid. I'm surprised to see your hair was ever that short. Do you still have a bit of tomboy in your style?
