I did not win the fleecy, hooded raincoat I bid on, so I ordered this "lodge" green Nau coat to compare with the North Face Allena I posted a while ago. A bit about the Nau:
Color: It seems to be a color somewhere between olive and brown. Again, not one of my best colors, but not terrible.
Form/Fit: Reviews say it runs small and long, but once again I found the coat true to the sizing chart. As with the NF, I can layer over a thick polar fleece with no pulling or strain. The cut is slim in the torso, which helps keep it flattering despite the room for layering. It is longer than most trench coats I've seen, which is great for coverage but might make me feel stumpy if I was any shorter. The sleeves are VERY long, which I really like in a coat meant to keep my sleeves dry, but they might engulf those with shorter arms.
Function: The lightweight and stretchy fabric make it very comfortable. The zipper unzips both ways, which would be nice if you needed to free up movement for a bike ride or to access pants pockets. The outer zip pockets are secure, and there is a special slip pocket inside of one hand pocket large enough for my cell. Headphones can also thread through the lining to stay dry, though I don't know if I'd use this myself.
Here are the main differences between the two coats, as I see them.
Nau (green):
About half the weight of the North Face, great for travel and temp changes in CA
Fleecy, wicking lining
No belt to fuss with
Edgier, more urban design
DH prefers this one
North Face (tan):
Removable Hood, nice option to stow when not needed
Inner pocket large enough to protect passport + phone/camera/cash from thieves
Classic, timeless design
Possibly a better color on me?
How do you feel about these, looks-wise? Do either of them strike you as more "me"? Should I keep either of them or keep looking?
