Is there anyone here who WON'T sport a red handbag? The red can be the red of your choice - bright, muted, burgundy, tomato.

I'm intrigued.

I am on the cusp- it would have to be very muted- more: cognac, maroon, eggplant, rust.
Would any of those pass for red? I do have an almost orange bag but not right out of the tube (color class term) orange. Actually, I almost never wear anything right out of the tube. A bag can definitely be brighter than my outfit.

How can one NOT crave red handbags? I would need a neutral one, but everytime I go shopping for a "sensible" brown bag I end up buying another stunning red one. :-/ By the way, I adore your red flowery number, Angie!

I was just thinking, "I've never had a red handbag" but then my eyes drifted over to my bright red Fleurville Mothership diaper bag that I carried around for over a year so I guess that counts (it's huge, so it was quite a statement - it's been relegated to sitting in the car now because I just don't want to lug it around anymore). I have to say that red wasn't my first choice, though; it was a compromise based on what was available on a fabulous sale and what wasn't so girly that my husband would be embarrassed to carry it when he took the kids someplace without me. I tend to favor prints in fun colors over solids, too.

I love, love, LOVE red handbags! I love the color red but have difficulty wearing it, so I try to console myself with small doses of bright red accessories. The red handbag is ideal, and especially adds a small, bold hit of color to neutral business attire. I love how it can be paired with black, brown and gray--it's so versatile. I just got a new red one for my birthday and can't wait to break it out! I had an absurdly bright one prior to this. I'll wait until I'm out of my winter coats to use my bag, though, to avoid excessive matching. Bottom line is red bags will always have a place in my wardrobe.

I just got my first red bag for Valentine's Day. I still haven't taken the tags off of it. I want to use it as a neutral and bought one in a classic shape without a lot of hardware. Now I'm wondering if it might be a little too plain.

I truly think everyone needs a red handbag - obviously in a shade and style that's suited to them. But as I ponder my bold statement I also realize that I am obsessed with bright red, which made me post this thread.

I can't imagine Angie being insecure enough to care what anyone said about Valentino...and if they said anything negative, they are an idiot. This is not subjective. It is a fact that Valentino is fabulous. I can say that, having seen it in person!

Well, I guess I'll be the first voice of dissent on this. I'll never say never, but I'm seriously skeptical that there's a red bag out there that would tempt me. I've never been a fan of red in any form (maybe lipstick), so as far as actively looking for one, I guess I'll count myself out. Totally willing to be proven wrong by the right bag, though!

I'm not too sure I would carry a red handbag either. My outfits are always so bright that I think a bright handbag would add too much colour. I get the most use out of my grey patent quilted satchel and my navy patent quilted handbag. At least they are two standout neutral bags. I must get a cream bag for summer.

Hmmmm......red certainly is not my top choice for color for a handbag. I'm a cream/ cognac/ chocolate/ black handbag girl at heart. But, I'd have an open mind for a tomato red bag if I really liked it. If I were going to do it, I'd want to go all out! But in general I am not drawn to red at all, not in houses as accent colors, wall colors, or clothing. But please count me as open minded although it would not be my first choice. I'm curious to hear what you are thinking!

Pre-YLF I had only dull neutral bags in black or browns. I don't have a red bag at present unless burnt orange counts. Maybe red will have to be my next bag purchase because they look so wonderful against neutrals. I would definely carry one.

Oh no, I see misconceptions brewing! Color theory skills to the rescue!

Red doesn't necessarily = bright. There are plenty of muted reds out there for those that don't like bright colors. Rosewood and tuscan reds, burgundy, maroon, terra cotta, rust red, etc.

I've just started incorporating red as a new signature color and have discovered it to be an amazing neutral, of all things. My other colors are aqua, citron and apple green. Surprisingly anything true red really goes with everything. I carry a bright red computer tote every single day and I have yet to have it clash with an outfit. Inside, I keep a small dark red clutch that I remove when I dont want to carry the computer bags. These two pieces go with literally everything I own. I never ventured to red before this winter and I'm so glad I did.

I finally got a red bag for Christmas, and I carry it almost every day! I love it! I do have a thing for red, though. I also have a healthy amount of red in my house. :o)

Quite right, colour theorist - Maya.

High five, fathenry - I view red as a neutral tone too. A contradiction in terms but the shade does neutralize OR add life a palette somehow. And I have blogged about that before if anyone remembers.

I never had a red bag. I don't switch bags very much, and I have a green coat and a red coat, neither of which I would pair with a red shade, so a red bag is not high on my list. I do like them with black/white/gray outfits.
To be honest I only started introducing red a couple of years ago, and it's not very prevalent in my wardrobe or in my house. Maybe because I always liked green
