I was just noticing this weekend that I have several purple items, including these finds and this hoodie for the gym. I also have a lighter purple silk tank, maybe other things that aren’t coming to mind right now. as well. If I find a sustainably made version of those pants I posted, I will get them.
ETA the sweatshirt I’m wearing in my around-the-house loveliness borders on a berry shade, but could count as purple. My house dress/caftan is certainly purple too. ETAAlso that I have a formal silk dress I’m dying to wear again that is the shade in pix 2 & 3, and the two-piece dress I posted recently has purple in the pattern. Oh, and my dark floral mini dress has purple in the pattern. Yikes—scrolling through photos on my phone to find the dress I see I wear a lot more purple than I mentioned. And that’s not even getting into the berries!
Rachylou’s neighbors would think I’m quite the sensitive soul, ha! Seriously, Rach, what is that about?
Are there any linguists here who can explain why English speakers use the word “purple”? Other European languages use similar words for a very specific color similar to your pix 1 & 4, and use something like “lilac” for generic purple, including darker shades (not the technically correct use of “shade”). I don’t know words for purple in languages in other linguistic families.
