I was scrolling through my wish list and noticed that many NAS items are now on deeper reduction (and restocked). It happens every year, but it seems earlier this time!

Thanks for the heads up. The only item affected for me is the Veronica Beard plaid blazer — $40 less now than the sale price, so I’m going to ask for a price adjustment (tags are still on, unworn).

Will Nordstrom honor a request for a price adjustment? Last year I think I just reordered the things that were lower than NAS prices but I hate to do more returns. I’m going to check prices on the items I got. I’m now tempted by the rag & bone long blazer. I didn’t order it but had the opportunity to try it on last week and really liked it but the price stopped me from buying it.

Their shipping back to normal now? I skipped NAS cause all the issues, and cold weather starts in November anyway!

I just contacted them about a price adjustment. They will do it only if the same item in the size you bought is in stock. If the size you bought is not in stock at the time you contact them they will not issue a price adjustment. I was out of luck because I must have grabbed the only one in my size. Sort of an odd policy IMHO.

Thanks for the heads up! I just requested a price adjustment for the Pikolinos boots, which are now ~$10 cheaper. I know a bunch of us bought these, and it looks like all or most of the sizes are in stock right now, so the price adjustment should work. I'll let y'all know.

Edit #2: So, they got back to me and told me that price adjustments have to be done within 14 days of the original purchase, which I think is a new policy (I know I've done it with a longer time frame in the past). But they also said that I can return and reorder, which just seems like it's making more work on their part, but whatever.

Looks like the newly-discounted Pikolinos are only in black.

I tried to initiate a chat online to request an adjustment on the VB blazer but kept getting a message that chat wasn’t available (overwhelmed perhaps?). I don’t think I really want to bother reordering, waiting for the delivery, and returning to the store for a return in order to save $40. Since I’m not even 100% sure I’m keeping the jacket anyway. Meh.

The other items I got are same price now or not on sale. Plus I’ve worn both pairs of the boots.

Chris - I actually think that’s very common. There has to be the same item in the same color and size to issue price adjustments over most stores.

Delurked, the only other store where I've done price adjustments is Macys and they had no such policy as far as i remember. Or maybe the thing I wanted the adjustment on was in stock in my size at the time.

I sent an email asking for adjustment and got the 14 day response too. So I reordered the items that are now reduced more and will return the original pieces. Which means Nordstrom will pay shipping on the new order plus the return. Seems ludicrous but I have 4 pieces that are now less so it is foolish to pay more for items still hanging in my closet with the tags on.

This seems to happen every year now.....making NAS not excite me. I've got the Mixed Media Leather Moto Jacket in my cart. Almost $200 Canadian off. I've been thinking about it for the last 2 days....I think I'll pull the trigger and check it out.

It wasn't until this year that it occurred to me that this is a very environmentally unfriendly policy. There must be thousands of people returning and reordering, all because every year they offer lower prices than the NAS within three weeks of the sale? Yeah, it's getting old.

Echo, I agree. It’s silly and wasteful. Last year I got a price adjustment by taking the item into the store, but I wonder if it’s gotten stricter this year. Someone must have worked the numbers and found this policy is fiscally expedient for them, but it’s a mystery to me why that would be. Does this just discourage more people like me from pursuing the reorder/return cycle? I would think the employee time wasted would not be terribly efficient. But yes, it certainly does take some of the gloss off of the sale every year. When I make purchases, this is in the back of my mind, and I do consider whether I’d still want the item at a higher price. Hence my hesitation on the VB blazer, the only item I got that has a further discount now.

Echo - I agree. I guess when a sale is ahead of a season there is this chance. I can’t quite get my head around Nordstrom’s return policy though as it seems so challenging from a business point of view.

So since this is happening so much- many of you were complaining last year- why don’t you just put items on your wish lists and wait to order them until a few weeks later? It’s under 2 months since the sale? Returning and reordering is not good for the environment. I don’t understand what is so great about the sale.

Jenni, to each their own. I got some pieces at the sale that I like very much — two of which I have already worn. One of those is no longer available at all. Many of the items do NOT go on future sale after NAS and there is no way to know which ones will go on further sale and which ones will be sold out for good after the sale ends. It’s a chance we take when we choose to buy something during the sale.

well seems a bit of a crap shoot. I had 2 items that had additional reductions so I emailed customer service for each item.

For one item the customer service associate credited the difference.
For the second, a different customer service agent recalled the "14 day return policy" and declined to adjust the price.....

I did have the same issue last year- and I admit I was one of the ones who complained about it! It IS a crap shoot as some of the items I got at the sale are now not available so I’m not sorry that I bought them during NAS. I don’t like the re-buy and return nonsense and if it was a couple of bucks I wouldn’t bother but why pay more if I haven’t worn them yet?

Hmm. Well, I just reordered the Kurt Geiger bag for $50 less. The thing is, even if I had used the bag I ordered (which I haven't), I could initiate a return on the first one I bought and send back the new one, still saving $50. So, so wasteful. And, yes, I realize I am part of the problem by returning and reordering. I am playing the game, so it is as much my fault as it is theirs. But, heck, $50 here and $50 there and pretty soon you're starting to talk real money...

But someone remind me of all this nonsense next year...

FWIW, the email that I received in response to my price adjustment request literally said that I should just return and reorder the item. So it seems to be something that they're actively encouraging (or at least not discouraging.)

Jenni, then they would have to change their return policy. I hope they do. I don’t think they will end NAS, that’s for sure. So this is bound to happen year after year.

In my case I guess they are making out ok since I did order an additional item, the rag & bone blazer since it is now 40% off.

I suppose that they think some people won’t bother with the return and re-buy option and many people may not even realize that the prices are now lower.

I know I have purchased things at the Rack that were returned by someone else. Is that what Nordstrom generally does with returns? All the shipping back and forth is not environmentally friendly, but customers can reduce it by taking returns to the store themselves and ordering replacements to pick up at the store. I'd be very tempted to put a nickel in the pocket and see if it was still there when I repurchased (except of course you'd buy the replacement first)

FashIntern, the Rack used to take Nordstrom returns. I loved this because I didn’t have to package up my returns, and I got my refund immediately. I posted about the change here:
