Is this new? Nordstrom.com returns policy

I was talking to a friend yesterday about a dress she might order from Nordstrom.com for an upcoming wedding. She mentioned that she couldn’t return it to The Rack if it didn’t work. I assumed this was because it was a big ticket item. But I was looking at sneakers and saw the same thing. Because I live in the sticks, I order online a lot. And returning to The Rack was a major benefit - I’d get credited right away. But now, well, I don’t know. Have you noticed this?

I’ve returned items to the Rack as recently as this month. That said, I only found out I could do it on here fairly recently. It doesn’t appear to be an official policy stated on their website, which I why I had never tried before.

I know that I can't return Rack items to the mother ship. I guess I assumed the reverse was true also. I am lucky to have both stores in a reasonable distance.

I returned some items ordered for DH to Nordstrom Rack last week and nothing was said. They were sale items when ordered so maybe the Rack has them now.

This must be new as I also returned Nordstrom items to the Rack earlier this month.

Janet - I returned some Nordstrom items to the Reno Rack in late Dec after Christmas. No problems.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. I made a return to the Rack after Christmas, too. I wonder if this new, or just unenforced. I really prefer returning there to packing up and going to the post office.

It is worth a try.
You could just say that you have a return. Mine went back on my Nordstrom card.

When I called my local Rack and asked about the return policy, they told me that anything purchased from the regular Nordstrom store for over $100 could not be returned to the Rack.

I was also told on a separate occasion that when a retail Nordstrom item gets returned to the Rack, the Rack has to sell it at clearance price. (I'm not sure why.) So that is probably why they don't want expensive items returned to the Rack stores. They would lose a lot of money that way.

Interesting and good to know. I only have a Nordstrom Rack close so I guess that is where I will order from when I shop online. I hate mailing returns and am very bad about it.

That’s bad. I just returned a few Nordstrom online items to the Rack last weekend and there was no problem.

Oh no, I really hope this isn’t the case! The nearest full line Nordstrom is in the suburbs here, which is annoying, so I like being able to return to the Rack. Since I didn’t shop all fall, I haven’t purchased or returned Nordstrom items sinceN AS so it’s entirely possibly they’ve changed their policy. To be quite honest, although I loved the return to rack policy I never understood how that made sense for the company!

My local Rack no longer accepts Nordstrom returns. I think they started enforcing the policy in Oct/Nov last year. I know because I was being lazy and didn’t want to drive the extra 20 min each way to Nordstrom to make a return and the cashier told me so. I ended up making the drive. Also, I always thought what Diana said about not understanding how that made sense for the company.

Several years ago I called Rack here and was told I could NOT return to the store because it was a Nordstrom.com order....I have never checked again, and so just use the very slow, very frustrating return process. My nearest Nordstroms store is 100 mi away....interesting that in some cases some of you have been able to return to Rack. I guess I can't miss what I never had!

Never tried it, since Nordstoms and Rack are only a couple miles apart, but good to know! Rack and Nordstroms have a lot of brands that are different from each other, so it makes sense.

Okay, I have a test case. I got a pair of Ellen Degeneres booties with a spot on them. I’m going to try to return them to the Rack and see what happens. It might not be a great test, because they were on super markdown. I’ll probably make it there tomorrow. I’ll keep you all posted..

If they enforce this at my N. Rack, I will be reducing my Nordstrom purchases significantly.

JAileen, I'm curious about your report. Living out of the country, it doesn't really matter to me any more, but I know I used to return Nordstrom things to the Rack with no problem, although the reverse didn't work.

Something similar happened to me recently. I went to the rack to take care of a .COM return, they told me that the policy changed and wouldn't accept it. I drove slightly out of my way home to hit up a second rack, and they accepted the return no questions asked. Bizarre.

What? I return things at our local Nordstrom Rack all the time and they have never once told me I cannot. I return lots of things so maybe it depends on the store location.

Sorrry in advance for your problem. I don't buy a lot of clothes online but I did have to return an online purchase from Nordstrom. This involved me having to print the return slip on my computer, attach it to the package and drop it off at the local post office. Although I did not get the credit immediately, I felt the return process was pain free. Hope you are able to solve your problem.

I don't have Nordstrom close to me but have a Rack, I never thought to return items there I print the label and return to post office.

It is worth a try to return at the Rack if it is convenient, just because Nordstoms seems to take forever to credit my account when I return by mail. It is the only downside to their generous return policy.

I went ahead and mailed the return yesterday. I didn’t want to have someone tell me I couldn’t return them there. I did look back and found a receipt from last July that didn’t say anything about returning to the Rack. All in all, ignorance was bliss,

I was just looking at the return policy online and it does seem that things are changing. I will continue making returns at the Rack as long as they take them but that may soon change.

I never knew Nordstrom Rack accepted Nordstrom returns at all. Interesting.
