I'm back to how I started at YLF--Standing on the toilet seat. Sigh. Somehow the full-length mirror has not bubbled up to the top of the list of things to do.

I hope you can see enough of the tunic, pants & cardi to comment. Intentionally wearing a top that's longer than the layer above it (other than a jacket with a dress) is new to me.

My son thought it was better without the necklace; I'm not so sure.

ETA In Tampa, this was a winter sweater I might get to wear 1-2 times a year.

I really like a short-over-long-over-lean formula though it's still fairly new to me too. My observation from playing with this proportion so far is that the top and topper need to be different enough in length to look intentional. (When I try a combination that doesn't work, it's often bc the top is not longer enough, so it just looks like it's kind of sticking out below the cardi iykwim.) I think your combo here works -- it's just different enough. Somehow the cropped sleeves and cutaway/bolero cut of the cardi also help. Interesting!

I don't see a necklace in the photos but I kind of want one so I think I'm on your side here -- maybe a long pendant to add a bit of shine?

Please never forget to put the lid down before you step up!Really like that dark green colour on you and I think that a necklace would add something as well.

Agreeing that a necklace would work, but love the cardi! I think it works layered with the tunic, especially with the different sleeve lengths.

I think it works - I really like the cardigan. Great colour and shape.

I think with all black you can get away with many proportions - if you have a contrasting top and pants it becomes more challenging.

Sarah, thanks! I think of you as being particularly good at going beyond classic proportions, so am glad to get your stamp of approval. I *do* know what you mean about one piece being an awkwardly little bit longer. Not that you can tell it from these pix, but the tunic has a sharkbite hem.

Sal, when I put this together, I was thinking of Angie’s recent posts about black dresses over pants and tunics (even though this one isn’t that long) and about your layering post; thanks for that little push.

Thanks ST! One set of sleeves sticking out past another is something I’ve been playing with lately. Sort of a simple maximalist touch.

I’m an outfit repeater; next time I wear this, l will add a necklace.

I like this too and would like to see the necklace with this. The simplicity of the rest of the outfit really lets the cardigan be the hero piece.
