Printed sweater dress and pleather legs

I nabbed this dress online more out of curiosity than anything, but I love it!
I've also been wanting some pleather legs, and decided to opt for the much less expensive legging option, rather than pleather trousers.
Plus, the fact that the back is ponte makes these quite comfy.
Thoughts?

PS: Yes I am wearing two different shoes, and no I am not that tan, it's just the over exposure on the photo editing.

Sarah, I found your blog recently and try and check in whenever I can remember. You have incredible style.

FWIW, I'm not liking the busy pattern of this dress on you, particularly the horizontals but even the diagonal graphics. I think it must be a VERY difficult dress for most women to successfully wear. But that's me!

Sarah, I love your style, but I'm not a huge fan of the dress. I understand the appeal, since I love graphic patterns, and I *want* to like it! But I think it's creating bulk where there is none. You have a lovely figure and the dress isn't doing it any favors.

I love this dress on you! Keep! Keep! The print is so on trend, and I like that it looks like a fairly fine-gauge knit. Killer with the pleather leggings.

I had to contemplate for a bit to separate what I think most people will say from my own opinion here.

So here's my two cents as someone who doesn't always equate "flattering" with "makes me look skinny": it's a fab outfit and a great trendy look. Maybe not the most skinny-fying or typically girly outfit, but that's not always the aim, and as long as you're aware of it, it's all good.

I think you pull it off very well and I would admire you if I saw you out and about!

Tribal and pleather! How cool is that. You are definitely doing this the right way! I vote for the shoe with the stacked heel. I like how the natural looking wood element bookends the sweater. Somehow. In my twisted mind, lol!

I vote a much softer shoe, though - perhaps a wedge or something suede? I find the pumps very severe with the pleather leggings and you do not have a severe bone in you body, or a severe style! Does that make sense?

I took a day to think about the comments I wanted to make about this look. It is very current and on trend, and has the bold element that I have come to equate with your style. But it seems to be missing that extra pop that comes to mind when I think of Sarah. I have to agree with the others who have commented that this dress seems to add a bit of bulk where there is no in real life.

With that being said, if you love the dress then I say keep it and wear it!

Very interesting observations, ladies!
First of all, I have to say a huge thank you to you, Una. I have been trying to put into words for quite some time now about how "flattering" or "fab" isn't always reserved for items that make me appear "skinny". As someone who was obese until the last few years, it is very freeing to let go of striving for skinny.
That really resonated with me, thank you.
Angie, I see what you mean about the shoes. I will give others a try.
This dress is different, but it really appeals to me and the style direction I'm headed in. I love the print and colors, and hope it can be versatile. I imagine once I styled it completely (hair, makeup, other shoes or legging options) some of you might change your mind. I have been evolving in my style constantly, and while this is different than what I used to post on a consistent basis, it isn't too far outside my "new style". I just haven't been as public about the transformation I guess.
But regardless, everyone's comments and tips are appreciated and I'm to thankful I have ladies I can bounce these new ideas off of.

I used this seller and was quite pleased with the transaction.
I went up a size than I normally would have in Trouve bottoms. (Typically wear S, but got M in the leggings and it's perfect.)

Agreeing with Una and with you, I think the whole must-look-as-skinny-as-possible-at-all-times thing is somewhat overrated! To me, wearing loose or waist-surrendering clothes can actually convey more confidence somehow, something like "I don't need to broadcast to the world that I have a waist every second of the day. I am confident with my body and my self and I don't need to 'show it off' at all times to feel that way." And certainly layers and looser silhouettes are very on-trend right now, so there is a current-ness to these looks.

Yay, Sarah! I love that you love your new tunic! It's so snuggly = perfect for Bryan and the kitties too.

I guess I'm taking liberties here. I have met you and know that you are very kind, sweet, soft and gentle. So while the pumps don't look too bad, they don't match your insides with this outfit. That's one of the reasons I suggested an aesthetically softer shoe

Angie, I could never NOT love you, are you kidding?!
I have grown a lot since we met, but you are very right in that I am not very harsh in personality or style. In fact, whenever I wear something harsh, I always like to pair it with something overtly feminine to tone it down.
I'm notorious for trying on a bunch of different things in as little photos as possible. That's why I'm wearing two different shoes.
The almond toe black pumps are my all around favorite pump, and I just discovered they are available in wide width. Now I can *enjoy* wearing my favorite pumps. O:)
I have some suede booties that I can try with the look. But in general the pleather leggings work well with the sweater?
I also would probably style my hair with large waves to make it softer as well.

Love this look on you Sarah! Does the combination of the pleather and fabric pull in any unflattering ways? I'm asking because I've been eyeing these leggings since they came out but i also returned a pencil skirt earlier this year that had this fabric combination because of the competing fabrics pulling and making lines across my body.
