PP challenge, my wk in review

My week in review, from the Picture Perfect Spring 2013 Challenge, just for the "record."

The challenge inspired me to wear things differently than I usually do. It acquainted me better with others here in the forum community; I like Jjsloane's use of the term kumbaya--funny and true!

Most unexpectedly for me, though, is that it inspired me in ways that my usual use of the blog and forum do not. That is, I am routinely blown away by people's outfits on the forum, by Angie's outfits on the blog, and I'm always coming away with all kinds of ideas about style.

But this challenge did more: it simultaneously moved me out of my head AND it did not send me to shopping sites to find those missing pieces that I need to achieve a certain new look. It made me work with what I HAVE, what I already own, and made me WEAR it, not just think about it. The challenge really got me to follow these two rules of Angie's: Wear (my) clothes and Have fun with fashion.

My week's outfits:
1: Raiders of the Lost Ark. Tan linen pants (Eileen Fisher), snakes!-skin print top (made by me), black faux-leather jacket with burnished gold embellishment, black booties (Clarks)
2: Star Wars. White bootcut jeans (NYDJ), white crinkle-knit layered tunic (Comfy USA), hem jacket (Layers Squared), metallic sling-back Mary Janes (Fidji), mixed metals necklace and earrings (Marjorie Baer)
3: Breakfast at Tiffany's. Black lace ballet-neck tee (made by me) over wine-red ballet neck tee (Tees by Tina), straight-leg jeans (Paige), ballet flats (AGL), sparkly jewelry
4: Metropolis. Art deco-ish print dress (made by me) over long-sleeved scoop neck black tee (Caslon), elbow-sleeved open-front cardigan (Michael Michael Kors), black leggings with zipper down the back calf (Nordstrom), ballet flats (AGL)
5: Vertigo. Mixed-print tee in orange, red, black, white, tans, grays (made by me), black and white wavy stripe skirt (reversible to black with deep red dots) (made by me), orange cardigan (Halogen), black sling-back Mary Janes (Think!), nude fishnets (Commando), concentric-circle hoop earrings (Marjorie Baer).

It's great to hear how the challenge affected you in your attitude to the clothes you already had and the positive inflence of YLF. I love all your outfits and I don't think I can pick a favourite. You show creativity in them all. The silhouettes work well on you and you have a fab choice of colours.

These are all great looks.
I love the use of snake print for Raiders of the Lost Ark, your Breakfast at Tiffany's is very Audrey-elegant, and the Art Deco dress for Metropolis is perfect. I'm so in awe that you have made many of these things!

I'm particularly drawn to your Star Wars white and neutrals outfit! I really want to imitate that look myself.
Off to my closet to figure out what pieces I have!

I enjoyed your reflections on the challenge for you, these challenges are definitely sooo great for playing with the things we already own in new and creative ways. *cheers!* Great texture-rich looks, I'm particularly fond of #1 and especially #2 (I think this is the most white I've seen you wear? It's incredible!). As much as I have trouble with ankle-length pants, have to say you are rocking them in #3. Perfectly styled there.

All of these are SO elegant. #1 is my absolute favorite I like how elegantly rugged it is (if it even makes sense to put those 2 words together). I also ADORE the print on your dress in #4. I can see the inspiration poster in all of these and love the job you've don interpreting them.

I enjoyed so much to read your reflections on the challenge, and I feel that I got to know you a little better, too. I definitely liked what I saw. You style is elegant, eclectic and playful at the same time. It is truly terrific to see your outfits and styling. I find it very difficult to choose a favorite, but I think #4 wins by a smidgen. The pattern is beautiful, and it makes it extra special that you've made it yourself.

Aida, yes #2 is the most white even I can remember myself wearing at once. I think I might just repeat this outfit, though.

Day Vies, "elegantly rugged" works for me! I like that feel, too.

Firecracker, you have a polished style that I truly admire. I truly love them all! My favorites are #2 and #3. #2 because of the white with cream color combination, so 2013! #3 because you wear slim ankle pants like a super model!
