Possible Step Mother of Groom Dress and ??

My stepson is getting married at the end of August. The wedding and reception will take place in the Distillery District in Toronto. A happening area of Toronto for those of you not familiar with Toronto. The venue is Airship something.
Stepson #1 got married 5 years ago in Toronto at the Arts and Letters club.
When Stepson #1 got married I wore the green dress in the photos with pewter coloured sandals. There was a sit down meal. The sandals hurt my feet at the end of the day. I sold them. My feet are in worse condition now.

Two questions:

1/ Is this dress okay for the wedding? I don't want to buy another dress and I could put together something if needed.

2/ I am having difficulty finding shoes. I was thinking of metallic with a small heel or wedge. No flats. They have to be comfy. I have lots of problems with my feet and there will be lots of standing and dancing. Any suggestions for footwear?

Wow, you are beautiful in that dress. I say it's definitely a go. And the sandals you wore with it go really well. So if you can find something similar that are also comfortable, I think that would be ideal!

Thank you Firecracker! A relief for me. I really did not want to look for a dress and shoes. The pewter did look nice because of the zipper which has a pewter/silver pull.
At this time all I can wear is Birks and my New Balance walking shoes.
I have had good luck with Clarks, Rieker.

What is the dress, by the way? It looks unique and special.

Two questions:

1. Will you need a topper? Might be AC in the event, no? (And smart step-son for choosing such a fun part of the city for the festivities!!)

2. What Sharan said. What are your go-to brands for footwear? Let's see what we can find for you. How about some kind of metallic ankle strap shoe/ sandal?

I saw a pair of Sacha London sandals online that were pewter wedges. The reviews said they were very comfortable.
I have not heard of that brand before.

Me neither but worth a try if you can order without too much angst.

I would go to Shoeme.ca and search like crazy. It is free delivery, free returns. You can try out a bunch!! The service is awesome there. Highly recommend.

Thanks Suz for the vote of confidence. The dress is from Jolibel. It is a Canadian brand and made in Canada. Yes the venue should be fun and I am looking forward to it. There will be a live band playing great dance music. I have ordered from Shoe.me and that is where I saw Sacha London.
I didn't wear a topper to Stepson #1's wedding. I don't usually take one because of all the people it doesn't seem that cold. I could take a wrap that is off white just in case. Good thinking.

This is a gorgeous dress on you and I really like some of the shoes Firecracker found. My only questions- were you in a lot of the photos with Stepson#1? Anticipate a lot of photos at Stepson #2 wedding? I'm all for multiple wearings (especially when it looks this great) but not sure I would want to wear it for the same type of family event (but that is just me).

Excellent question Muffin. I get along very well with the Stepsons but I am not in a leading role. I was in a group shot in the first wedding (formal photos) and who knows for the second wedding.
Mr. Style Fan thought the dress was a bit in your face in the photos even though he picked it out.
My other option is to rent a dress. I have sort of looked for another dress and found nothing.

Hi SF - I personally would not wear a dress that bold to the weddings of two brothers. There's a lot of guest overlap and I think people will remember the dress. For me, I would be uncomfortable with that.
Them again, I would also be uncomfortable with a cobbled-together outfit--more so than the green dress.
The dress itself is great and looks amazing on you.

If Stepsons don't mind, I vote wear the dress again. Why not! There is something wildly soothing, calming and egalitarian about making the same statement with the same dress at the next Stepson's wedding.

You know, I'm in favour of wearing the same dress, too, unless stepsons mind. Different accessories, different venue -- it's a different time.

The only other potential issue might be if they want family members to blend with wedding colours. But hopefully they don't.

Off to research that designer...

Any chance that you could dye the dress professionally? It is gorgeous and the green is lovely but I'm thinking about what smittee says.

That said Duchess of Cambridge wore the same dress to her daughters christening and queens birthday. So, may be I'm with Angie.

I think that what Mr SF thinks is important and I kind of hear him thinking of a slightly softer colour.

Congratulations on the upcoming wedding for your son. That dress will work and is stunning. Remember if you go shoe shopping go at the end of the day for foot swelling and walk around in them before you buy.

Great questions regarding wearing the dress to both weddings. Lots of food for thought. The only overlap of guests to the weddings would be family from Mr. Style Fan's side (his brother and partner, sister, sister in law and brother's daughter. There may be some partners in there.) A very good friend of Mr SF is also coming who was at the first wedding. His partner wore the same dress to her daughter's wedding and his daughter's wedding (did you catch that). It was black but still. Actually she has worn it to a few weddings I have been to.
Ex Mrs SF has a huge extended family and they will be there. Who cares what they think. Not me. Ex Mrs SF usually wears black or navy.
Bride has one attendant and attendant can wear whatever she wants. So no colours are chosen.
Suz makes a good point. The venue's are very different. The guests will all new except for family and a few family friends.
Rachy the fabric is polyester.
We are having bride, groom, ex Mrs SF, her partner and bride's parents over for dinner in a few weeks. I can find out if there is objection to my wearing the dress then. Although knowing bride she will say wear what you want.
Good advice Ledonna. Yes I need to wear the shoes late in the day to be sure they are comfortable and walk in them for awhile.
Jane Mr SF worries about me sticking out. Not always a bad thing in my opinion given the family dynamics. Yeah for the Duchess of Cambridge.

I'd have no hesitation about re-wearing that gorgeous dress. It is stunning on you, and, if you are comfortable with wearing it, I don't see a problem.

I love the shoe options that Firecracker found, so I hope you can find some of them locally. Totally agree that feet need to be comfortable at these occasions - I know I've suffered in the past!

That dress looks beautiful on you and I love the idea of new silvery sandals with it. I was thinking along the same lines as muffin about being in the pictures but it sounds like you have addressed that issue. Sounds like it'll work great.

Sounds like you have thought it through- go for the repeat (& try to find more occasions to wear it- truly gorgeous on you). Better to spend your time finding comfortable shoes rather than a shoes AND a new dress

The Distillery district is fun, you definitely need comfy shoes, some of the roads are cobblestone and uneven. Are you near a Walking on a Cloud store? They are very helpful for finding comfortable shoes. I did a quick search on their website for silver sandals and came up with lots of hits http://www.walkingonacloud.ca/.....1%5esilver

You can further refine by size etc, but it's better to go to a store and have them fit you.

I say as long as the color won't clash or be too bold in possible formal family photos, wear the dress again! I also came up empty-handed in a search for a new dress for my stepson's upcoming wedding (also in August, but outdoors in the mid-Atlantic -- ugh!), so I am also wearing an old favorite that should blend in with the wedding party and be at least somewhat comfortable. So I understand! You look beautiful in this dress (and that's not an easy color to wear). Good luck with the shoe search -- looks like the others have you off to a good start on that front.

I actually think this dress is perfect for the setting and for the type of wedding you seem to be describing. Sounds like step-daughter-in-law (bride) does not care a hoot about convention and this is not a conservative situation. So go for it. Also agree 100% with standing out as step-mother. Or at any rate, being yourself amidst the crowd of ...well... As someone who has found myself in that position frequently my rule is, be me.
