PMWIW: poncho, leather coat edition-ETA: ruana pics

I've already shared a little of my timidity to wear my Argentine ruana out of the house. I tried it again today and I'm not quite there yet, but then I remembered the two "ponchitas" I bought for my daughters when I was there! When I brought them back, the girls were excited but the ponchos remained unworn…until today! They're wool and chunky and perfectly cozy for the 40s-50s temperatures we're having. My vintage Coach bag (from high school! It still fits!) seemed just right with the Aigner boots and RL belt.

Believe it or not, my dh took the leather coat pics with the same camera. What a difference natural light makes! This coat is not warm at all and I feel kind of like Annie Oakley when I wear it, but it was fun to throw it on when dh and I dashed out to see a movie after the trick or treating ended on Halloween night.

I know I'm always biased towards cognac leather, but I do love these looks and they work so well on you! Fun poncho, lovely boots, and great bag! How awesome that you saved it...I regret purging my classic black Coach that was in perfect shape from about 20 years ago. Love your WIWs!

Fabulous. Both renditions. All the bright brown looks ultra rich, and brightens up the grey.

(Natural light is best - hands down).

Shemarie, you might be pleasantly surprised if you look on Ebay for a similar bag to the one you purged. When I dug mine out, it didn't look so great so I considered replacing it with a different old one. My dh was a hero and brought it back to life with some saddle soap and TLC.

Thanks for the tip on the saddle soap and suggestion to watch ebay! Great ideas! Funny how many high school/college-aged kids I see these days sporting those "retro" styles in cool ways...they've either raided their moms' closets or shopped ebay/consignment, I'm sure!

Isn't it fun that those old pieces still have some clout? My daughter gasped when I pulled out that old bag. I guess that's a true classic. I had forgotten about it until the girl on the classygirlswearpearls blog was carrying a similar one.

I am in love with that annie oakley jacket. Riffs on the americana trend without being full on "annie get your gun." Citified.

Love your poncho, please wear it already:) I understand the timidity...I'm that way about my new AT vest...I want statement pieces and then feel like it's a little to over the top.. And it just sits there in my closet languishing...poor thing!

I love the Annie Oakley coat. Please don't purge it. It is that cool. You could throw a solid blanket poncho over it for warmth. No pattern on the poncho unless you want a really Boho look but that doesn't seem to be your style.

Karie and Carole, I did wear the poncho and I felt great in it! Thanks for the encouraging words! The piece I've been really timid to wear is this big ruana, also from Argentina but received as a gift. It's so huge! I had DH take a pic (with lots of clutter in the background, sorry!) of it unwrapped so you can see just how enormous it is, and one wrapped over the shoulder, like he wore it for Halloween last year, with a sombrero and huge fake mustache.

Love your poncho and leather looks--- they are earthy, but wearable and very autumn friendly. I think the ruana suits you -- the coloring is good with your hair and skin. Simple styling (as you have here) will keep it classic.
