and obnoxiously following just about all of Angie's suggestions at one time:
Light aqua sweater - Reiss
Blue/purple/green print - Nanette Lepore pants
White Coach drivers (slippers)
Red lipstick
Lavender grey fingernails/green toenails
Big silver and lapis cuff, various other silver jewelry
New reading glasses - Kate Spade
Purloined 15 year old daughter's turquoise hair chalk (not very successful)
Other than the hair chalk, none of this is really out of my comfort zone. I just hope the afternoon client doesn't want to video chat because he is a tech-y person.
I have been working from home for 16 years, first due to a move to a rural area and then because I had my daughter. Initially I liked to schlump around, feeling happy about not wearing suits, hose and heels. But then I got tired of people saying things like "Oh, you work from home, you must wear pajamas all the time." By the time I was done nursing and being spit up on, I got to the point where I really wanted to feel professional because it helped in my interactions with colleagues and clients (even though I only rarely see anyone face to face).
Ultimately, I am dressing for myself. So I wear what I like and what makes me feel comfortable and good. If there's an occasional highlighter pen stain on a silk blouse, so be it.
