oh dear heavens, I just ordered about $1700 from Nordies. Much of it was duplicates (sizes, colors) but oh my word. It's been nice knowing you all. My consolation is that you will all be KILLER dressed at my funeral.

I didn't order dups, if they aren't the right size, I will have to exchange and hope they still have my size.

That's ok, I shopped the pre-select and just placed an order for MORE stuff after reviewing Angie's picks list. I am really hoping they come in one big box and not trickling in, or my additional 13 items is going to drive hubby batty.

Kim, my total is about $3000 so do not feel that bad I know most of it would be returned but i need all these options to try on when I drive to the store again.
On the bright side my credit card statement has just been issued on July 12 which means I have the whole month before I have to pay that and hopefully this lot arrives and will be returned before August 12!

My credit card company is trained. After a few "fraud alert" calls over the years regarding Nordstrom, I told them I don't care what the amount is, if it is from Nordstrom it isn't fraud - it is a sale.

the good thing is that the UPS guy comes fairly early in the AM and as long as my KIDS don't SNITCH, I should be able to get things hung in the closet and the boxes disposed of before he gets home from work.
haha- I really am not a sneaky wife, but if he comes home every day to more new boxes he will start to raise eyebrows.
I need to practice saying... "Oh, but most of this is going back" to which he will reply, "then why on earth did you buy it in the first place?" they just don't think like us.....

Wow, good for you. That took guts. I can completely relate. That's always a concern for me too, sometimes it's difficult to explain the strategy. I guess there is something to be said for separate bank accounts and credit cards.

If the guilt overtakes you, you can just return the whole lot, but you've had the fun of trying things on (I know that's not why you ordered it all, but it IS an option. . . )

When the UPS guy said something about being at my house every day for the past two weeks, I was so glad he was talking to my son and not my husband! and I hope they didn't repeat it to my husband either. He's pretty tolerant (on the outside?), but I'm certainly NOT going to probe and ask what he really thinks :-\

I think it was the red CK dress that pushed me... I started by just opening links.... and then putting things in my wish list.... and then when I saw that dress in red, I thought if I go all winter without finding a dress I love, I will regret it. I atleast wanted to see it on me....and you have to order $200 to get free shipping

and then once you are ordering something that will likely be returned, why not get more things and check them out too, and then it just continues from there. . .

Been there, done that, doing that now. . and watching the credit card dates to get returns back in time. . .

Oh, QM, I know exactly how you feel! I watch the door (and the mail) like a hawk when DH is home and if the cc statement comes on the weekend, I just set it aside till I know he'll be working the next morning and has a chance to cool off! Oy, did I just put that in writing? I know you guys wont rat me out...lol. Good luck with your haul

It can be tricky, that's for sure.....I think I finally might have brought my SO over to the dark side: He's been looking for a specific type of boot to wear but didn't want to spend a lot. I found him the perfect pair on endless.com, on sale for $200. "I can't spend that much on a pair of boots!" "Why the heck not? You will wear them for probably 5-10 years, they are great quality, and we can afford it!" They came yesterday and he looooves them. He was wearing them last night while we were watching TV, just so he could enjoy them :). I think the light may be dawning <cackling and rubbing hands together>.

You all should have seen DH last winter when I was on the hunt for the perfect tall black boots for skinny legs. It was like the shoe version of 'The Princess And the Pea'. The never-ending parade of ginormous boxes of boots that the UPS man kept delivering was turning my dear boy's face WHITE.

I reminded him that all boots were going back except the perfect pair. And when the perfect pair finally did show up, he was so relieved for the end of the parade, he didn't seem to care what the Perfect Pair ended up costing. HEY, they were on sale, right?

This might be helpful for those who undertake covert operations. On Nordstrom's site, when you add items to your cart there is a shipping note underneath. If it says "usually arrives in x - x days" those items come from Nordstrom's warehouse and will all ship in one box. If it says "usually arrives in y - y days" (different amount of days) and mentions only standard shipping is available, those items are shipping from a Nordstrom store. And for each item coming from a store, you will likely get a separate box because they will probably come from different stores.

I admit I usually hide boxes from hubby (even though we both do the budget and I can't hide the bank account, lol) but THIS YEAR he gave me a NAS list of his own.

I hide the $125 monthly goodies best as I can! I can't imagine what $1700 would elicit from the BF!! Yes, they know the money is being spent, but somehow the packages coming in and stacking up is so much worse. :/
As for leaving the non NAS group, I'll finish your wine for you!

My theory is most men don't understand because most men don't return anything. I can't think of many men who keep their receipts let alone make returns. Most men don't comparison shop either. That's why their clothes are rarely at as deep a discount as women's. Women need a sale to buy, men need a specific reason.

When I see $1700, I figure about 50% is duplicate sizes. Another 25% won't work in person. And of the remaining 25%, about half of that will be true keepers. Men just see $1700 and have a coronary because they believe that money is spent, gone, and never coming back.

Ah, I know what you mean! I've tried on items at my girlfriend's house before - not because I want to be sneaky, but because I don't want to rile the boy up for something that might just go straight back where it came from... think of it as being considerate of hubby's blood pressure. o_0
