Vildy? That’s a parody? I did not realize that. M does wear stompy boots & some of the other things in that post.
This is from Newsweek’s World in Brief (no pun intended) bulletin. Weirdly, when I tap on the link, the article it takes me to is only about the beach volleyball team.
The ‘Sexualized’ Dress Code of the Olympics
TL/DR: Officials speak out against ‘sexualized’ dress codes and gender discrimination at the Olympics
The difference between sporting uniforms for men and women has become an international talking point. The recent global controversy began with a fine for the Norwegian women's beach handball team (not an Olympic sport) for breaking clothing rules by wearing shorts rather than "close fit" bikini bottoms. The singer Pink has now said she will cover their fine but this has spilled over into the Olympics.
Germany's female gymnasts wore unitards, rather than leotards, for their team qualifying round on Sunday. This wasn't the first time they wore them but the German Gymnastics Federation said it was done to counteract "sexualization" in the sport. U.S. superstar Simone Biles says she prefers the leotard because she is under 5' and makes her look taller, while standing behind the Germans' choice. Men are allowed to wear shorts but not allowed to wear sequins, according to the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG). Women are allowed sequins but not allowed shorts.
What happens now? The beach volleyball is already underway but expect attention to turn there as it nears the medal matches. Despite reforms to uniform guidelines, FIVB, the beach volleyball federation, lays out separate uniform rules for men and women.
