Please help me choose between dresses

I've got a big church event this weekend, and I am trying to decide between these two dresses. I'm leaning one way, and want to see what others think. The first dress matches the occasion with a symbolic red, and the second matches with the springy theme. I also intend to be able to wear this dress beyond the weekend, so want to take that into account as well. Feel free to make any any shoe or accessory suggestions.

They both look nice on you, but I prefer the second one. It seems more modern. Sleek, maybe. The lightness fits your coloring.

I'm drawn to the red but I love that shade of red so it may be making me biased. They both look great to me - the second is as you said, more spring like in it's color.

JAileen has a good point about your coloring and the lightness of dress 2. On second look maybe I am leaning more towards that one after all! I know, I'm not supposed to vote twice.

I like #2 better. The red one is nice too and a bit more modest, especially if you wear a light cardigan with it.
You look beautiful in both of them.

Loving #2. Spring like and very flattering.

#1 not so much. I've never been a fan of sharkbite hems, but this looks a bit too long for maximum leg flattery, and I'm not wild about the colour combo either.

I like them both, but prefer #2. Then again, a just-above-the-knee shift dress is my favorite silhouette, so my opinion probably isn't objective.

Wow. I'm not sure I expected this. I was leaning toward #1. The dress is light and flowy, and I can see myself wearing it all summer. I do like #2 as well. I'm going to post a pic of what DD is wearing. I couldn't sway her to a light dress - she fell in love with this one. It is very her and I love seeing how happy she is in it. Obviously we had it shortened.

Ryce - I can't tell you how many shift dresses like this I've had in my life. It's been my go to dress silhouette for years. I think that's why #1 felt different to me, plus the color has symbolism here.

I also get how a lot of people don't like shark bite hems. I don't usually prefer myself in red, so having the other color in the dress probably helped it for me. I do like myself in the colors of two more than I expected (I've always liked white on, but not necessarily ivory, which depending on the shade can wash me out). I will admit to using the self tanner in case I go with #2.

I like both, but I think #2 looks better with the shoes you're wearing, so I gravitated to that one first. I love the shape of #1, and it might work better for comfortable, casual wear in the summer.

Delurked, you know what they say - don't ask the question unless you already know the answer. Oh wait, that's for lawyers. I've been blown away at times when everyone thinks the pants are too big that I think are perfect (this actually just happened to me!). As I said, I think both dresses look nice on you. If you prefer the first one, you'll be fine.

JAileen - this is so funny. I also texted my friend at the same time I posted this, and she was emphatic I go with #1. And I totally know what you mean about seeing one thing and others seeing it differently.

I didn't realize I wanted to wear #1 so badly until everyone picked #2.

I agree Jenn. Do you think I should switch out shoes? I have the petty
Booties in putty or I have a more gold pair of sandals without the rosettes.

I'd been eyeing dress #1 for months and saw it go on sale, and just received it today. I can picture myself wearing it over and over this summer, and I like the way I feel in it. For dress #2, I bought it because it was a size up from the snug dresses in my closet and I didn't want to feel uncomfortable, so I went with my tried and true silhouette, and it does make me feel good too.

Well, 2 is more formal. You may want that for church. But I like 1. It's sweet and pretty.

Rachy - I can see that #2 does look dressier, and #1 is perhaps more sundress casual.

Oh I love them both. I can't decide, so if you prefer #1 and think you will get more wear out of it, I'd keep that one. It's gorgeous!

My first thought was how pretty you are! That was looking at dress 1 obviously as the first pic. You look great in both. I am with J'Aileen in thinking dress 2 looks more modern somehow. And with Jenn that it looks better with those shoes. Dress 1 is gorgeous also though so if your heart leans you towards that one, there is your answer. I also think dress 1 will be better with what your daughter ( gorgeous too! ) is wearing. Otherwise I think she may end up looking more demure than her mother which is probably not a thought you want people to have at a church event. Just my gut feeling from my very churchy background now left behind since age 47. Love Jenni

Without reading the comments i like both dresses om you. My favorite is the red the ruffles at the shoulder and the hem length is so pretty. I look forward to what you will choose.

Thank you Ledonna - she may be the only one in a long dress, but I loved her so much in it I don't care at all. She is modest and an old soul, and a little dark, and it is all reflected in this dress.

Clearly with the outliers here but I MUCH prefer #1. Pop a metallic shoe on and you're set!
