This was my Sunday brunch outfit. I think it's a nice play on classics. This sweater fits more snugly that it used to so I thought it would look best under a jacket and paired with some wide-legged bottoms. The proportions work out better for my body type. I have not worn this pair of khakis in quite some time but because they are shorter (meaning regular length) than most of my other khakis as a result they work better with flats. I also loved how the over-sized navy and cream houndstooth print played with black and tan. I think it's a pretty nifty outfit for Sunday brunch.

Black BR khakis
Silver Vera Wang python print ballet flats
new favorite "pearl" earrings from Target

Lovely! I love the lightness that the white gives to this look and you're right, the hounds tooth does play nicely with the black and tan. I like the sweater length with the pants and the touch of animal print is very fun indeed.

UmmLila - When I play with neutrals, pattern and shine must come to play or else I'm just not being myself. When I'm not wearing color, a subtle shoe is not a good choice for me.

Olivegreen - I used to be afraid of pattern. Since joining the forum I've gotten better about incorporating pattern. I am still not where I'd like to be.

Diane G. - you make a good point about sweater length. I have noticed that depending on my pants, the length and width of the leg, I may need a sweater with a longer or shorter hem. I'm sure there's some golden ratio governing outfits at play but don't ask me to explain it

Nebraskim - I was able to squeeze in a little stylish time for me because DH was conducting daddy-daughter time with DD.

Day Vies, I love this - great neutrals-mixing and still a nice pop with the strong pattern of the sweater. The earrings are a great modern classic touch!

I like the shoe color/pattern, being a fan of light colored shoes ... I meant something like a little heel or chunkier sole so the shoe would show more!

I was surprised when you said in another thread that you are 5'5" ... I always thought you were taller from your photos. I think Cocolion is right about the legs!

Love the crisp navy/cream pattern against the tan. And layering sweaters under a jacket is practical this time of year and polished.

Houndstooth is one of my favorite patterns, and it looks fantastic on you. It goes really well with the black and tan, and makes a perfect outfit for Sunday brunch!

UmmLila -- gotcha! I love a heel too. I wear more substantial heels when my pants are longer. These are only about 30-31" and I need 33-34" to do a heel w/o looking like I am waiting for the flood.

Coco - I have come to terms with the fact that proportionally I have no torso and really long legs. The benefit is I look really tall ;-D

I agree this outfit is terrific on you. I love the neutrals together. They give your signature modern classic style, and you have the fun, feminine touches with the shoes and earrings. Is that a pearl back on the pearl earring? It looks really cool--classic with an edge. And are they reversible--i.e., can you wear the small pearl on back and big on front, too? That would be some fun versatility.

Columbine - I was wondering if anyone could see that the khakis have a tonal stripe woven into the fabric. This is about as daring as I get on the pattern mixing.

Firecracker - Absolutely - the earring is essentially the small pearl in the front and the earring back is a huge marble-sized pearl. It is a reversible earring I believe the design is a Dior knock-off. I wasn't looking for this earring when I stumbled across it but I was happy with the result just the same. I agree it is classic with a little edge. I've tried it with the big pearl in the front but the impact is not quite the same. I did mix it up and tried the front with faux diamond studs -- that was interesting. I am having fun with these earrings.

Kkards - Pants like this treat me very well. They don't slide around like jeans (no stretch) and have the same level of durability. (This pair is like 8 years old!). They aren't precious so if DD drools on them no harm no foul.
I was motivated to add a jacket simply because I love this sweater but I can't wear it with everything because it doesn't drape. If you have a sweater or 2 with the same fit issue it/they will do nicely under a jacket (make sure the jacket is lined!)

Lovely outfit for Sunday brunch. If you have red or orange or some other bold bright colored trouser or jean that houndstooth sweater would remix quite well with it too.
