JAileen, capris are a vanity thing for me. I carry most of my weight in my butt/thighs and have cellulite. I wouldn't say I can't wear shorts, and I even cut off a pair of jeans to mid-upper thigh length for home wear, but I definitely feel more comfortable in something below the knee. I'm pretty sure most silhouettes can be done in a way that feels modern or a way that feels less-so. As for the black dress, I just want to pause and make sure I won't regret adding it, given my minimalist tendencies. See Finds already in my closet below.
cat2, very true that you can find garments that work and don't in any section. Lisa P was using a shorthand rooted in a specific era of retail marketing, though, and I understood what she was saying in a way I maybe wouldn't have with a more wordy explanation.
Angie, I hope the white dress comes back. It feels like it would be a little stretch for me, but in a good way.
La Ped, I used to follow that account, but following it felt like always being in "shopping mode" so I stopped. I can see how it might be useful while looking for something specific, though.
Synne, "chill and grounded Californian Writer" is the most lovely descriptor. I DREAM of looking like that.
FWIW, "Missy" (or sometimes "Misses") was a N, American retailing term years ago for clothing for "mature" women. It wasn't all bad, but had a reputation being the department store section for women who had given up on fashion.
Minaminu, I'm undecided on the striped top. Sometimes it feels like I'm checking a box with those, but then when I don't have one, I miss it.
