Plaid/Glitz/Boots: Needs tweaking + WIW's

I had a bit of extra time this morning--hence the glitz attempt. It needs some tweaking though. I think the outer shirt needs to be buttoned to look less shapeless. The plaid is DD's and is really too small but I wanted to see if it would even work (I'm not convinced.) I think this will be a fun fall outfit if I can get all of the elements right.

WIW's: My most recent BF outfit with black footwear instead of nude (nod to Shiny.) Knit dress with recently acquired black booties (thanks, Cathy!) I'm so used to lighter shoes that I'm not sure this looks okay.

#1 is very cool! I love the version with yellow shirt, but both are good. How exciting to se this formula put into action like this. Well done!
I agree with you that lighter booties/shoes might work better with #2. Maybe it has to do with the relatively light jacket? It needs some bookending, I think. #3 is fab! I really like that on you. The booties make the dress! Love this.

I love outfit 3 on you! Don't hesitate with the black booties. I am going to follow this thread, because I like the direction of 1, but I feel there needs to be a little tweaking, but I am not sure what.

ETA: just re-read what you wrote. I like 2, but actually think for some reason nude shoes would actually work better here. Maybe I am nuts though.

I love 2 & 3. I'm not sure I am able to go with the plaid & glitz thing but that is just me.

WOW.....I just LOVE 1. Though 2 and 3 are great too.

If you want to be uber-picky, they yes, a little more shape on the outer shirts. How about rolling up the sleeves ? I really think it is minor. You remind me of Sheryl Crowe in checked shirt outfit....don't ask me why. IMO, it is SOOOOOO rock n roll cool.

I love how the black sparkles go with the yellow and black plaid! Number 2, I'd like to see how it looks with a bit more contrast in the blues between your jeans and your top. Both are very cool interpretations of Angie's formula. I was about to toss a black sequin top to the donate pile but now you've got me thinking...

And of course I love #3 So happy the boots have a stylish home!

As for the plaid and glitz formula, here is my tweak: don't wear the grey tucked in boots, wear the black boots w/ both outfits. The focus on this look is on top: the contrast of sequins with a super casual grunge shirt. The grey boots distract. If wearing the grey tucked in boots, I'd keep the top really simple and almost matching the jeans (or grey to match the boots) so the focus is on the footwear.

Now, as for the WIWs -- you look great! You look especially good in the bf concept I think. And it's always nice to see you post. Except I'm missing the moon info on your chalk board. ;-D

Love your WIW, too. Do not, I repeat, do NOT fear the black footwear. It looks sensational on you! Love the booties. I assume they are the Reports? I adore my (taupe) ones.

Okay, so following along and I am thinking yes, with 1 it's just that the shirt could be especially a tad longer, but the yellow and grey are playing so nicely with the outfit, and I think Denise is right about the boots thing, but that would have never occurred to me. I do always love those gray boots of yours though.

I do really like #1 (with the top longer). I see the wonderful play of the sequins with plaid. Great outfits and I think the black booties look fine.

Hey, there, kellygirl - you and I both tried the look today, cool! I like the second PGB better than the first, the harmony makes me smile. Your other two looks are very nice, and the black shoes bookend your dark hair beautifully!

I love your shoes in #2 so much, I can't really get past them. But a special thumbs up to the denim/denim/sparkle combo in #1...

@Ingunn and Scarlet: Thanks! You don’t know how much I wanted to swap out the black sandals for tan! Nude shoes have become part of the uniform. I did want to try black for a change--my black footwear is feeling neglected these days.
@Elle: Lol! Thank you. IKWYM about the plaid and glitz--not everyone’s cuppa! I have a feeling DD’s would give me the eyeroll.
@Isabel: Rolling the sleeves <smacks head> why didn’t I think of that? I totally forgot about that trick! I think that would definitely help.
@Cathy: Good point about the contrast. Perhaps black jeans would be better? (Thanks again for the black booties--I love them! They go with every thing. I already tossed my old Payless ones!)
@Denise: You are absolutely right! I was focused on the tough boots but I see your point about the glitz/grunge. I will remedy that right away! Lol! How funny you remembered! I think we got so used to seeing the reminder that we’d forget to do the measurement.

You are on a roll. These are great examples of trying out the concept. I love the idea of trying #1 with the gray boots to see if bookending the gray in the plaid makes it fabber. I like how you have the disparate styles and materials but are linking the color scheme of the sparkle top and the plaid shirt.

To tweak the shirt more in line with the "cheekiness" of the outfit, and since it's a bit small, try rolling back the cuffs and maybe popping the collar, too. That might make it look more like a cropped "topper" than if you were just wearing an overshirt for warmth. Exposing some arm could let you add a bangle or something.

I love the glitzy look with the denim shirt especially - you could try scrunching the sleeves for a different vibe.

You are rockin' those BF jeans in outfit #2 - they look fantastic on you!

I like the denim with glitz look better but I think that's because I dont love the plaid. I would maybe try rolling or scrunching the sleeves and popping the collar.

I like the second outfit with the black shoes just fine. And the dress with the booties is great!

I love your BF outfit, that jacket is just gorgeous on you and such a beautiful color. The dress is just perfect with the boots, just a little edgy!!!
