peeptoe dilema-Help!

You all were so helpful when trying to put together outfits for a couple of upcoming weddings. I was going to wear this next weekend,

but after suffering from a rather serious infection in my big toe, I am losing the nail and it is unsightly to say the least. The worst part is that I had found a fairly comfortable pair of peeptoes that "make" the whole outfit, now I don't know what to do...any suggestions from you lovely smart and clever gals?

I had a friend who had the same thing...she was in a wedding and lost her big toenail....they put an acrylic one on.....you couldn't tell the difference!!! If you have any outgrowth they can do it:)

The old nail is still there, and I thought about doing that, but am so afraid of putting anything chemical on it after everything the poor thing has been through, I have a follow up appointment with the Doctor the next day, so I would have to rip it off or I will be in big trouble...

hmmm, sounds complicated, especially if you had an infection and not quite healed. I guess best to find different shoes perhaps:(

Taylor-I thought about painting a french tip toe nail on a band aide-I am artistic! Just kidding...finding shoes for me is such an ordeal-It was a miracle to find those, I'm so sad!

Do you have any closed-toed shoes that you really like? With that dress you can do pretty much any color shoe. I'm always partial to red, and I know I have a kelly green shoe that would look amazing with it as well.

If the nail is still there, cant you just paint the nail...say red or something?

Hi Carole --

I have a big toenail that got damaged once and seems perpetually problematic since. Like you, I'm hesitant to cover it; I like to have air on and access to it (no acrylics).

So: I do a pedicure in a pearly shade that's close to my natural nail color...nothing to draw attention to it or the other 9. I would try that for the event, then take the polish off for your doctor's visit. Then redo if you get the go-ahead.

Even if your doc recommends staying away from polish, painting the other 9 in whatever your version of "nude nail: sparkly/pearly variety" will integrate ole Problem Nail better.

Of course you could always just say "forget about it!" and do the other 9 in a fun shade...if anyone notices, they can just deal with it!

Taylor - The top part of the nail is there, but the base by the cuticle is seperated andopen if that makes sense. I'm thinking maybe I could paint what's there and use a little tiny bandaide to hide the base, I think that might work....I might experiment and post a picture....

Steph - I just don't think I could pull of finding another pair of shoes, I really have a difficult time with shoes, but that's a whole new post..surgery is scheduled in October-have never even worn the yellow peeptoes , tear!

Got it . I understand....sounds like painting all your toes the same shimmery shade like Vix suggested. No one is going to notice the base of your toe in your peep toes if they are a light neutral.:)

Vix=Good tip, I might try a little trial run of a nude shade and see what that looks like, unfortunately, you can only see the big and second toe in the shoe! My feet are going to drive me crazy!

I was going to suggest just wrapping the toe in either a bandage or some Band Aids if that would feel comfortable to you. That way if people notice your toe in the peep toe all they see is a flesh-colored Band Aid and not a healing infection. And you get to wear those lovely shoes and have happy, comfy feet. It sounds like that's the direction you're going in already. You'll still look so polished ~ that outfit is lovely on you. I remember when you posted about that dress before (unless my memory is playing tricks on me).

Sparky-Yes, this is what I'm experimenting with, I just painted my toes and I'm going to put a tiny bandaide at the base, I will post a picture soon, after the polish dries and get your opinion! Thank you for your affirmation that this might be ok!

Sounds like a plan...and if you want to be a bit obsessive, I wouldn't rule out painting the bandaid as well. [Probably easier with the sheerer vs opaque bandaids.]

Looks fine! no worries! I don't think anyone would ever see that in a group photo or anything like that either. Beautiful outfit.

Queenie and Scarlet-thanks for your reassurance. You are right, Queenie, no one will be looking at my feet, they will be looking at the beautiful bride! I'm just so hyper aware of them because they are such a source of trouble for me...thanks for settling me down...what would I do without you girls?!?

Looks fine to me. I feel your pain with the toenail, I dropped a plate on my big toe and the nail fell off about 10 years ago and it never grew back right, got infected blah blah it now takes a trip to the chiropodist every 2 months to keep it looking presentable! x

I lost both by big toenails over the winter due to not fitting my ski boots properly. I now have about 2/3 of the nail. About a month ago when I had maybe only 1/2 a toe nail I said the heck with it and started wearing open toe shoes. Nobody has said anything, I don't think anyone will look too close.
And my toes are definitely not as nice looking as yours are now.

Oh, there's nothing to see! There's only a peek of the Band Aid in those shoes and your toenails look great with that color. Polished in all senses of the word. Just make sure to take extra bandages to the wedding in case the shoe puts pressure on the toe and makes it hurt or the bandage starts to slip off (that's the mom in me coming out ).

It turned out great...barely noticeable. In fact, yours looks tons better than mine!

[I've tried to defeat the old "after 40, you have to choose your face vs caboose" saying, but I haven't been as successful with the toenail, ha.]

Good luck with the surgery...maybe by fall it will have healed on its own?

I think it looks fine! I've worn nude fishnets with peeptoes before, I don't know if that's against the rules. But it lets the toes show with just a little camouflage.

Tha's a good idea, too, Kristine. But I'm thinking it is going to be a roasting hot day, but even at that micro fishnets are rather cool...hmmmmm.
