I have a list of style “mood” aspirations that I consult from time to time to help me with outfit creation and purchasing decisions. One of the words on my mood list is “patina”.
I like patina. The green tinged look of oxidised copper is particularly appealing to me.
That was the starting point for today’s WIW.
For the oxidised effect, I wore my black mesh top over a light teal top. I dyed the top myself. I like the way it blackens the teal without smothering it (“blackened” is another word on my mood list). I semi tucked it into a woven belt, which I wore to the side to match the line of the skirt.
I also wore green beads that have something of a patina and an Oroton ring that (unintentionally but happily) matches the patina of the beads.
Sneaky addition of pattern inside the coat
It was an afterthought, but I also enjoyed the textures of this outfit. The beads, the safety pin style necklace, the pleats of the skirt, the weave of the belt, the mesh of the top, the pile of the velvet coat, the suede of the bag. It reminded me I should pay more attention to texture when I put together outfits. I tend to focus mainly on silhouette, colour and pattern. Shine can always be added with accessories. But texture tends to be the forgotten outfit hero.
