Pantone colors of the year - pale pink and baby blue

Color authority Pantone has for the first time anointed two colors of the year for 2016. Dubbed Rose Quartz and Serenity, they are shades of pale pink and baby blue.

The company’s announcement, expected today, is an annual event that is closely watched by the design and fashion industry as the tipoff to a trend that usually spreads through home décor, fashion and design for several years. It tends to unleash a cascade of announcements from retailers revealing their own products in the colors.

This particular pastel pairing calls to mind a balloon bouquet announcing a pair of babies, but Pantone says that isn’t the aim. These shades, they say, were chosen to convey rosy warmth and tranquility. As for baby stuff, they don’t want to go there. “Rose quartz is not baby pink,” says Leatrice Eiseman who, as executive director of Pantone’s Color Institute, oversees the company’s annual choice of Color of the Year. “It doesn’t have that wimpy feel.” http://www.wsj.com/articles/it.....1449083326

Well, I actually quite like the two colors, they are among my best ones, being a fair blonde with cool undertones. I already have quite a bit of both in my wardrobe, but would happily add more if I found the right pieces.

I have never noticed anyone but Pantone paying attention to Pantone colors of the year! They never seem to show up in stores until a year or so later if at all.

Not thrilled with the Pantone Colors of the year - these particular colors are symbols for other things. I do always love wearing pale pink with white in the summer! Pale blue, I can live without.

I agree that I have not seen the Pantone colors having such a big impact on fashion - perhaps more so in other arenas that I don't follow? As it happens though, I like to wear both these colors and will be happy to see them out there.

I like these colours a whole lot but feel unsure about doing them now. I feel like Pantone's either a bit late to the game or its too early to put this into action. But I guess we need lead time.

Also, WSJ was showing a stand mixer in pink, like a Kitchenaid, in honour of this combo. I have to confess, my first thought was this was just not a way to get a man... Haha!

The blue is lovely. The pink looks like it would wash me out. Too bad because I love pink, but a different shade.

Meh. Taken together, they are quite "baby blanket" to me. Pastels are not my favorite anyway. I like touches of that blue, but I won't be going out of my way for either of these colors.

Hmm....good news, for my clothing budget! But, oh, wait--I wanted me a pale blue bag for this spring and never found the right one. Maybe will have more choices next year:-)).
