I have just returned from an absolutely wonderful holiday on Australia's southern coast. Breathtaking scenery and a very nice cooler summer weather (maxes in the 20's which I much prefer to where I live in the city)
Before I left I posted about packing http://youlookfab.com/welookfab/topic/packing-1 and this is just a follow-up, mostly for my own records.
We were away for 10 days and I had washing facilities
I took 3 each of short sleeve tops, bottoms and shoes, 2 long sleeve tees,2 toppers and a warm scarf and summer PJs and a dressing gown. I could actually have packed more - I was way more minimal than I needed to be
They all got worn and I managed to get through every occasion with them. (though I did supplement my climbing outfit when it got cold at the top with DH's tee worn around my neck as a tee!)
Notes for the future
1. The dressing gown was very helpful for lounging around
2. Need to pack some slippers or other shoes for wearing around the house; my beach shoes were sandy and yucky once I had worn them to the beach (on their last legs, that pair). my sneakers got muddy from a hike and my good sandals were not comfortable enough. I don't like being barefoot in the kitchen (and stepping on some steamed rice vindicated that opinion!)
3 On the same kitcheny note - pack an apron!
4.I packed only one pair of long pants (my maroon skinnies) and probably would have benefited from another pair as those climates make for cool evenings and I prefer to have my legs covered completely
5 I need to make sure that I do actually wash my clothes so they are available to wear!
6 My skirt-attached to-shorts, bought as gear, and mostly only worn as such prior to this holiday, were GREAT - worn them to the beach, hiking and siteseeing and with the shorts, perfect for lounging. I will definitely be wearing this a lot more, although it will probably be too hot for the hotter Australian summer weather.
7 two short sleeve tees were not quite enough given that once was white and I was saving it for church/ dinners out. I would have done better to substitute out the sleeveless top for one with sleeves, given how much time we spent in the sun and that I would prefer to cover up my shoulders outdoors
8. I didn't bring (don't exactly have) a coverup for the beach and while I managed, it would have been a helpful addition and saved my normal tee shirt getting salt encrusted
And lastly, if one has told one's children to pack one outfit for church, make sure they don't wear it to the beach the previous day! (didn't matter really - Aussie churches are pretty casual in holiday towns)
PS - I didn't read Shiny's suggestion on my previous thread to pack a cashmere sweater until after I had left. I don't have one - but it might have been helpful
