Outfit quandry when its unseasonably warm

Today was near 70 when average temperatures last week hovered around freezing. I decided to pull out my favorite wide-leg glen plaid trousers and pair it with a new top I picked up over the weekend.

This outfit just came together (at lightning speed too!) It's kind of odd when you get used to dressing for one specific season then suddenly the weather changes and you have to pull together an outfit for a completely different season. I am usually stuck in front of my closet as if it were the first time I had seen its contents when this happens. So I am particularly shocked that this outfit turned out so well when I hadn't planned to put this outfit together.

Do you tend to get stuck dressing for the current season that it is difficult for you to make outfits for another season in a pinch?

Well Day Vies, 70s weather is considered the winter here and everyone is wearing boots! Whatever the season you look great in that sweater!

As to your question, for me it goes even deeper than that. I am usually stuck staring dumbfounded at my closet for half the actual season! I mean it takes my brain longer to make the transition than it should and even if I do have the articles i need to put outfits together, I can't seem to imagine them. Although, to be fair, my biggest stumbling block is spring...a season which barely exists where I live. Yet some years it really happens or lasts much longer than two weeks...and then what? Yikes!

You look great! We're having warm December weather here too (weeps) and I'm gritting my teeth and pulling out my lightweight shirts. I usually switch over wardrobes to keep myself from getting bored, but I had to go back into summer. Sigh.

You did great Day vies! It always happens after you clear out the old season, doesn't it. You were able to put together a perfect outfit. I'm with Shevia and IK. We are still right around 80F for our highs everyday, but I refuse to wear summer clothes like a tourist. I'm wearing jeans, flats and a long sleeved blouse/shirt. Even if I have to roll the sleeves up, it's a lot more clothing than I can manage in the summer!

We are going into summer & I've been wearing linen all week & today is so cold. So you have my sympathies.

Not too warm, yet with those colours, what a very seasonally appropriate look nonetheless! Well done, Day Vies, and yay for one of those days when it just 'falls into place' easily---I'm sure it's skill more than luck, since I simply don't get those

Like Claire, I'm in jeans and long-sleeved cotton shirt! It's 54 degrees outside, at 10am; will be 70 or 80 by afternoon of course :-/ And I can't even say my shirt is in nice warm colours to match the month, because it IS a summer shirt.

Ah yes, it was odd, but welcome weather today in our fair city! I, too, had to change my plan. I went for boots, mostly because I didn't want to shave my legs, but I did go without a coat in December!

Love the subtle pattern mixing and the warm, but vibrant tones that set off your face so beautifully. Wear this again!

What are we going to do when winter really arrives?

@ BethAnn -- what are we going to do? I am suffering from a sinus headache and my closet is schizophrenic -- sweaters and short sleeves with wool skirts!

The kids today were wearing shorts! In Kansas! in December! So I hear you. I've been pulling out things that I'd put away for the season and really hoping it will turn cold enough to wear my pull over sweaters with some sparkle for the holidays. Right now a Christmasy tee would be better.

struggling with the same issue...but to make matters worse, my office is unbelievably cold. so even thought its going to be 65 degrees today, i'll still wear a wool sweater, but instead of boots, i'll wear my black flats, and a light coat.

First off, you are magical with putting colors together. Seriously.
And second...YES, I totally get you. It was so warm yesterday, and I immediately threw on an outfit, only swapping out lighter weight tights. I think because I had it in my brain that I wanted to wear a warm weather outfit, but knew I couldn't. It was like the combo was dangling in front of me, so I just snatched it.
Oh dear, I seem to be having that "caffeine hasn't kicked in yet" sort of morning. Sorry for the rambly!

Even when it's warmer at this time of year - our days are very short so it's not warm for long. It doesn't seem to affect the way I dress other than that I don't need a coat. 70 degrees is by no means hot - for me that is.

Oh yes. I was just saying on Teri's thread that I was set on winter now and wouldn't know what to do if it warmed up to 80...

Yes, I had the same problem the past two days. I was bundling up in sweaters and our warm temps meant I could wear something lighter in weight. I have been wearing outfits that were staples for me when it was warmer. And I've still been sporting my tall boots, I won't give them up!
