I don't love this look - at all - but forced myself to keep it on all day and figure out what it is that's not working . Normally, I'd be taking it off an hour later and putting something else on, never bothering to analyze the problem. Today's blog post - the first pic - reminded me of my charcoal/pale grey (maybe pale blue, can't quite tell) pinstripe blazer, that also rarely gets worn. Funny: I LOVE blazers, but the window for wearing them in my climate is so narrow, and they end up sitting in my closet for 10 moths of the year. I initially wore this with some dark grey pointy toe leather sneakers, but those came off as quickly as they went on. Bordering on high school gym teacher -looking with a blazer.

Anyways - it bugged me that this look is so different on the model - maybe because of her dark hair and dark footwear? What I came up with is this:
1. I don't love high contrast looks. Black and white - yes, sometimes, but not often. I have a very feminine black off-the-shoulder top that I like to wear with my white jeans , but usually stick to softer neutrals and pale blues with white.
2. A very tailored and structured jacket needs a flowy , more feminine underpinning for me to feel my best. This felt too masculine, and also uninteresting. Would have loved a printed, silky , even a bit of a ruffly top to soften this look up .
3. also needs a scarf for interest - but it was a little warm today for one.

I also decided that this dislike of masculine tailoring with plain tanks or tops is precisely why I also have too many unworn plain underpinnings like this. They are great in theory, but I need to stop buying them. I did switch out the blazer for a soft, long buttonless sweater later in the day, and it made the look feel much more "me" and will be a decent way to get some use of my silk and poly camis and tanks.

Any other thoughts on this look - as to why it looks so blah?

white jeans - Gap Girlfriend, on their 2nd or 3rd year and will need replacing next year.
jacket - Smythe, 4 years old ? maybe 5?
poly crepe cami - Banana Republic; first wear; bought last winter to wear with the red BR military blazer that Suz and I have (which has also gone completely unworn )
mules - dolce vita - second or third summer ; still in decent shape
necklace - Club Monaco.
