Hi YLFers,

I seldom start a thread here but hope you guys can help me out. I've had the bob since the beginning of the year and have gone through several trimmings. I'm starting to get bored, but have trouble finding the right style for my face shape. As you can see in the photo, I have a very round face. My hair is thick and often look poofy, which you may not see in this pic since it's unwashed when the picture was taken. Do you have any recommendations? I thought about having a long pixie/short crop but am afraid that my thick mane may make it very hard to manage. Or are there any variations of the bob? I have a tomboyish style so feminine hairstyles are not my cup of tea.

I'm sure you guys will come up with a lot of ideas. Thanks ladies!

Having a tomboy style, I advise more feminine hairstyles, maybe something like these.. the side bang would be perfect for you!

I adore picture #2 that Rute posted. I think that would be an adorable look on you. I think the way it goes wispy at the chin/jaw area would make your face look more heart shaped and play up your eyes.

I have thick hair with poof and texture, and I use Redkin Align 12 (and then a Chi iron) and Bed Head After Party Hair to tame it.

I am not sure which super-short styles work best with a round face so can't help in that regard, but I CAN say that thick hair is no obstacle to having it cut short; quite the reverse. Your stylist needs to know what he/she is doing but it is actually much easier to look good in short hair if your hair is very thick. You can get textured effects more easily. Hair is easily controlled with a bit of pomade or other product, and maybe a de-frizzer before drying (depending whether you tend towards frizz).

Thanks everyone for your replies! Rute's comment does remind me that having a more feminine cut balances the boyishness of my style. Thanks Rute! Cjh's suggestion of a cut similar to Lyn's is great too. But will #2 really look great on me?! It seems like it will take quite some time to style... and it's definitely something beyond my comfort zone. Should I bite the bullet and try?

ETA: I've examined the photo once more and found that it's the shagginess that intimidates me... perhaps if it's less shaggy and more like a bob but still maintains the tapering it will work just as well? What do you guys think? Thanks!

I love #2. I think the shagginess you're seeing is because the hairstyle has been purposely tousled. The same cut could be worn smooth also and look great. I think the layers help give it a great shape worn either way.
