OT: Wish us luck

Just as she started to perk up and feel better, my kitty became very sick again I'm really worried about her. The symptoms are completely different from before and seem to be even more severe. I'm obviously rushing her to the vet ASAP tomorrow, but I just felt funny posting here like nothing is wrong when I have been a bit of a mess all weekend.

I know this forum is full of pet owners and animal lovers who can sympathize with how stressful it is to see your beloved pet suffer, and you're a very compassionate/comforting bunch, so thank you in advance...

Maya, so sorry to hear that. Hope that Toulouse is okay and that you get some help from the vet. It's so hard when our pets fall sick and can't tell us what is wrong.

Oh Maya, huge hugs to you and Lucy from McClure, the FreddieCat and me! Watching an animal suffer is unbareable, and I fully understand how awful this must be for you. At least you're getting her the best care possible, and hopefully you'll see results from those efforts very soon. Keep us posted if you can!

Oh, poor kitty! I hope you get an app't ASAP this morning, Maya. I know how scary it can be when your cat is sick and you want to help but can't do anything. I am convinced that good vets can be miracle workers, though- they certainly helped my Duffy out loads when he was alive. I've got my fingers crossed for you and Toulouse- let us know how it goes!

Yes Angie, "tomorrow" meant today. We just brought her in a few hours ago. It's going to be a bad week. She had blood drawn, was given fluids, and an anti-nausea injection, and he can't eat or drink for 24 hours. We have an antibiotic to give her, and we have to give her Pepcid twice a day...so medicine 3 times a day. The bloodwork was taken to see if the infection she had might have reached her kidneys, which would be very bad news and put her in the hospital. We won't know the results until tomorrow.

She is utterly traumatized from all the needles poking and prodding her.

Aw Maya, that's terrible. I hope your kitty will be okay. I know how strong that attachment is to a pet... they become your baby.

My chihuahua fell on the deck yesterday and got a splinter in her belly. I'm taking her to the vet today too. Not a severe situation like yours, but really unpleasant nonetheless and I feel so bad for her.

Oh, I am so sorry about your poor kitty. It sounds like you are giving her the best of care.

My dog got very sick a month ago, and the vet was similarly concerned that it could be kidney failure. Fortunately blood tests ruled that out, and a couple weeks of anti-nausea meds and antibiotics (in case a stomach ulcer had caused the problem) got her feeling back to normal.

I'll be thinking of you and Lucie hoping that you get some good news.

Marianna, your poor pooch! It's SO hard seeing pets in any kind of distress, even when it's not serious.

Kari, I'm glad to hear your dog has improved. I hope the same goes for Lucie. It could just be a reaction to the antibiotic she was on before.

She has perked up a bit and is now asking for food, even though I can't give her any until tomorrow, but I'm so glad to see her hungry after a whole weekend of not eating. Fingers crossed that she will eat tomorrow and be able to keep it in her tummy.

Animals are usually stronger than we think. I have to convince myself of that otherwise I’d be traumatized every time an animal cried. Lucie will pull through. It has taken Jasmine 20 months to get better. She almost died in Sept 2007 while we were in London. Your love and care will help more than you know, Maya.

Phew, I'm so glad I have YLF as both a support and a distraction. I'm taking a brief break from doing job-related searches. I just don't think I'm in the right frame of mind and I'm likely to make a lot of mistakes. But I have to be home to keep an eye on her...so I need the distraction.

She is stable for now. She has finally gone upstairs to sleep in my bed after meowing for food all day. While I feel bad that I can't give her anything, I'm relieved to see her feeling hungry and perking up. I hope it lasts.

Maya, I'm glad that your kitty is stable. That's great news. And hunger is a GREAT sign! So sad that you can't feed her, though. That would kill me.

The vet found two splinters on Gertrude's belly. He removed them really quickly but it was awful hearing her cry. She's splinter-free and happy now.

Maya, Angie, and Tanya, thanks - I am really glad Shadow's back to her normal self. She is technically a "senior" and is a year older than our last dog was when she died very suddenly, so it's hard not to worry when Shadow isn't feeling good.

Marianna, poor Gertrude! I hope she heals quickly.

Angie, that must have been terrifying to have Jasmine dangerously sick. I can't even imagine. Glad she is okay now.

Thanks, Kari. When we heard that Jasmine was deathly ill, we flew back from London in the next 5 hours, not knowing if she would be alive on the other side. We headed straight to ICU from the airport when we got to Seattle. It was a very traumatic time. That little girl has been through a lot and I was an utter wreck. Don’t know HOW I managed to work and write blog posts at the time. I guess we are all stronger than we think.

A toast to healthy YLF animals! (Who are going to live to be 100).
