OT - blog as good as YLF for non-fashion subjects?

I just wish I could find one on make-up and gardening (probably not both together...) that would demystify them like Angie does fashion.

Anyone know any?

Or is there anything else you wish there was a 'YLF' for?

Ugh, I can't deal with relationship advice. You know the saying: "...everyone has one and it usually stinks." At least in my experience...

I would like to see more information in general on decorating tiny studio apartments. Most of the advice I found was on decorating "tiny" spaces--as in 1,000 sq feet, which is more than twice the space I have. Or it was on decorating a small room in a house. Or it involved doing a lot of work and renovation that isn't possible in a rental.

I would love something to tell me how to decorate my home without spending a fortune. I hate everything I do to a room when I decorate. Thank God my husband has better taste than I do.

Maya, there's a TV show for just what you are describing http://www.hgtv.com/small-spac.....index.html. Many of them are studios and well under 1000 sq ft.

I prefer to keep YLF strictly fashion.When you start mixing too many OT subjects it seems to distract from the fashion forum.
Seems that there is a blog out there for everything else:)

Maya, I am a long time reader/fan/lurker of Apartment Therapy. I have gotten endless amount of inspiration and information to decorate my one bedroom when I was single, our old rental SF home and in the process of doing so for our new house.

Here are a few house tours of 500sft apartments. I am aware that some of these apartments are not studios and some are owned and hence fully customized. And some may be larger than 500sft though claimed to be only 500sft. Nevertheless, I hope you will find some inspiration here:

I'm with Taylor! I do enjoy the OT posts on the forum, but I would never expect Angie to stray too far from fashion advice. I go elsewhere for my recipe, personal finance, fitness, motivation, makeup, career, and humor needs.

Biscuitsmom -- I got a lot relationship advice from the forum askmarsvenus.com. I also read John Grey's books. The forum is sponsored by John Grey's Mars-Venus coaching team, so they sell you on that but I couldn't afford it. I owe a lot of gratitude to that site and the books, I think it's part of why my present relationship really works.

Regarding YLF, I like the fashion-focus although I wouldn't mind a bit of straying into hair and make-up since they are a big part of projecting the image you desire. It's all part of the glam squad!

@Taylor and everyone. Sorry! Wasn't suggesting YLF really should do anything other than fashion, but I can see I wasn't clear! Have edited the thread title to make it clearer what I meant!

There are plenty of blogs out there about everything. I think what I'm saying is that YLF is something special and whenever I look for a blog about other things they just don't match up in how the information is presented, particularly if you are new to it. I spent about 30mins browsing gardening blogs yesterday... I'll try MakeUpalley though, thanks for the tip!

Oh dear, though, don't want to provoke an outcry!

Cileena, check out Maria Killams blog, Colour Me Happy. There's a link to it in the member blogs of ylf. She doesn't have a forum, but you can read through comments on her blog, and she links to lovely pics and some cool sites.

My favorite decorating site is http://www.houseofturquoise.com. It's mostly aspirational, but I've been able to use ideas from that site in my guest room project and it's coming out fab. Plus her blogroll has all kinds of other gems.

I do read Apartment Therapy, but it's not as helpful as I had hoped it would be. Unlike with clothes, I'm not great at taking decorating ideas and making them suitable for my own budget and restrictions, so I guess it's partly my fault. Still, I wish there was a blog like that for people who are just getting their first "real" apartment (unlike my student apartment), who don't have a lot of experience. YLF is a great resource for people who are just starting out with the world of fashion, just like I'm just starting out with the world of decorating.

I can't have holes in the wall at the new place, which is a major nuisance. I really wanted one of those Ikea storage systems, but I can't attach the rods to the wall. Grr.

There are amazing technical blogs and car blogs. Parenting and political blogs are aplenty and Mummy blogs are very popular too. Try Maria at http://colourmehappyblog.blogspot.com/ for easy decorating advice (not for small spaces through).

Maya, get to a book store and read about decorating small spaces.

I don't have a garden, but I heard about the site A Way to Garden the other day. It looks very comprehensive and full of her personality as well, much like YLF in that respect. Margaret Roach was an editor at Martha Stewart for 20 years and dropped out to garden full time in upstate NY. http://awaytogarden.com/
