OT: Team Buttercream or Team Cream Cheese frosting

I can potentially like both, but cream cheese frosting is only good to me when I can't tell it's cream cheese, so I can't really say I'm a fan. The same tanginess that makes people like it makes me dislike it. I also like the decorating possibilities of buttercream more. So I am Team Buttercream. It's butter. It's sugar. What's not to like!

I'm going to predict that I'm in the minority though. I'm the only person I know that doesn't love CC frosting.

Of course, you may be Team Neither. Some people find all frosting too sweet and scrape it off.

No batting for both sides

I'm team cream cheese frosting. Honestly, more than anything I'm team heavy/thick frosting - I don't like the texture of whipped frosting.

Depends strictly on the cake in question. Buttercream in general, cream cheese for pumpkin and carrot.

I'm with Scarlet- spicey cakes get cream cheese, and all others get buttercream in my house.
But what about whipped cream frosting?

Depends on the cake involved, Scarlet is right, cream cheese frosting is for specific cakes only - particularly vegetable/fruit based ones.

Buttercream or Italian meringue only goes on matchingly light, pale cakes. Ganache goes onto richer thick cakes. I've also been known to frost cakes with chocolate mousse. Then there is the whole world of fondant icing which I always think is a bit much.

But for me personally, I am team Unadorned. I love the texture of fresh, warm cake without any frosting.

Buttercream, love those homemade butterfly cakes where you cut out a circle in the centre of the cake fill the hole with buttercream cut the removed bit of cake in half and put them on top of the buttercream like wings x

Don't like cream cheese frosting.

Not a big buttercream fan, either - when I frost (which is rarely, I'm more of a pie/tart gal), it's either a sugar glaze kind of thing or a whipped cream frosting.

Buttercream! But I'm with Khris--if whipped cream frosting were an option, I would choose that. I don't know if I love anything more than fresh whipped cream (I don't love it out of a can, though). This is why my road to veganism has been long and very slow.

Easy, buttercream by a mile. I could eat a bowl's worth. But it must be real buttercream and not that miserable imitation mess that most cakes are frosted with. Faux buttercream is an offense to the culinary arts.

I don't like cream cheese frosting. But then again, I don't like cream cheese in any form:)

Team buttercream! I love cupcakes covered with a swirl of buttercream and sprinkles on top of it.

I don't care for frosting much - too sweet. I do like ganache on cakes, but I prefer them without anything except a dollop of fresh whipped cream (the real kind).

I'm Team Whipped Cream Frosting! I like cream cheese frosting on carrot cake and red velvet cake, and I will eat buttercream in a pinch, but whipped cream is my fave.

Team cream cheese; I make cupcakes just so I have something to eat the frosting with. I never thought about it before but it is that tanginess you talked about that keeps me coming back.

I associate cream cheese with savory breakfast dishes, which makes it a little sickening as a confection for after dinner. I'd much rather have plain CC or scallion CC on a bagel or toast, or dolloped in an omelette.

Whipped is not an option because...it's not! We're talking strictly about the richer varieties. Personally though, I do not like whipped toppings. I mean I do, but not as frosting. I also don't care much for icing.

definately buttercream. but in cream cheese's defense, i managed to make a good one this weekend for the pumpkin cake. i was surprised at how good it was. but i still loooove buttercream (particularly my recipe) soo much more.

All of you cream cheese frosting lovers need to cross enemy lines and try my homemade devil's food chocolate cake with buttercream frosting (always a very thin layer--I hate too much frosting!). I'll bet I could at least get you to bat for both teams :).

Cream cheese, but it has to be super light and airy with hardly any sugar. I don't like sugary frosting! I feel the same way about whipped cream, just whip up some cream, no sugar needed.

Kristine, the whole point of CC frosting is to NOT be light and airy :p It makes frosting extra decadent and rich. I'd say you're on team whipped.

Team Buttercream! I LOVE Red Velvet cake from Magnolia in NYC. I was so happy to discover one place that I could buy it here in Australia and they RUIN it with cream cheese frosting

Although, there is one kind of cream cheese frosting that I make that is completely divine because it includes vanilla pod infused butter.
