OT: How cold is it?

It's so cold that:

- my tires deflated in the two hours my son and I were roller-skating last night (but reinflated after driving)
- my outdoor thermometer is frozen at -10
- my friend's electric gate is frozen open
- my husband says his beard freezes when he steps out
- it's too cold to snow
- smoke from smokestacks just hangs unmoving in the air
- I'm wearing ski layers under my pants!

(Nicole, sound familiar?)

...that I almost froze my ears off while filling gas without a hat because the hair must always look fab!!

I don't think I've ever been in that much cold even during my winter visits to Alaska (it was snowing). How do you breath in?

BRrrrr.... It was -30C (-22F) here this morning, but it sounds colder where you are!

I'm in Calgary, the weather has been unseasonably warm here, but not this week... It's been around -28 since Sunday.

Hey Jem - we Canadian prairie girls are getting our cold streak now aren't we? When I left for work it was -27 with a windchill of -36. Tomorrow is supposed to be colder. Your weather sounds worse though Una.

Oh, I feel so warm by comparison, it was -9 this morning.

I fear it may be time to don the bulky sweater. I have none of my own but nick Ben's for lounging.

It's only around freezing here in Seattle. But that's cold for us. There is an impending snowmaggedon. I already had to walk 1/2 to work today because the buses were on snow routes.

Wow, our -10 last weekend was practically balmy in comparison!

Well, of course, we don't know nothing about cold here. It's merely freezing or a little below.

But I did have ice on my car windows, did put on my thermal pants, and am unable to get an outdoor temp reading because I live in a Faraday Cage and had to close the windows...

I'm ashamed to say that I was cold this morning. It was 32 when I got up.

How cold you are can be kindof relative. For example right now we would think that 0C (32F) would feel pretty warm! Although in the summer that would feel cold. You always feel cold at -30C, though!! Luckily, we don't get too many weeks where it is that cold.

How about you Shannon, does it stay cold where you are for long periods of time? We usually only get 2 or 3 weeks in the winter were it's that cold, and not usually in a row, thank goodness!

Last year we did have -20degrees (celsius) here. But now it's a balmy just below freezing.

I"m with Kelly- I felt sorry for my kids having to ride bikes to school in 32 degrees, so I drove them. Brrr... it was cold

Hey Jem - in Winnipeg, we can get a -30C trend for anywhere from 4 - 6 weeks and we always expect that come January. We've actually been really lucky this winter and our cold weather just hit this week. But like you say, it's all relative.

It's 7C, foggy and dark all day in the Greater Toronto Area- blimey!.
No snow on the ground really but rainy/misty right now.
Less than two hours north is colder and snow covered.

Norway, this year we have not gotten under -10 C...yippee. Normally, -22 to -30 would show up for a few weeks anytime between Nov to Feb. So there is still a chance! But low snow factor is sad...

Ick, ick, ick.

This past Friday my BFF in AK called me and asked what to wear because she had a bday party to go to but it was -15 outside lol.

MN has been super lucky with it's crazy winter this year (at least where i'm at) but i'm pretty sure i remember taking a picture of my car temp. last year and it said -30. Plus we have the crazy wind chill. ;_;

Because a friend and I always laugh at what the fashion magazines usually show for color weather dressing.

Oh Shannon, that would be really hard to have -30 for so long of a time. We are supposed to be back into plus temperatures next week, if the weather man is right (which isn't often the case haha)

Brrr, well it isn't that cold here compared to where you are, but Seattle is gearing up for a big snow storm and we never deal with those well

I'm with Mo, Khris, and Rae. My boyfriend complains that we don't get a real winter, but now that I've read him the list of cold symptoms I think he'll be quiet for a while.

I have frostbite on my knee from walking from the hospital to the parkade. UGH.

-35 w/ windchill today.

Well we here in Saskatchewan can sometimes boast (or mourn) temperatures that exceed Siberia in coldness and I think this is one of those weeks.
Right now with the wind chill factor it is -41 Celsius but it is supposed to get down to -47 tonight and stay that way throughout tomorrow. Wednesday warms back up to -41.
(For you Americans that means -41.8 and -52.6 Fahrenheit.)
