OT - need some healing vibes for my poor kitty!

I have been completely absent from the forum for the last two days because one of my kitties is very sick. He runs a fever for the second day, vomiting and almost does not eat and is tired all the time. We have been to emergency clinic yesterday and to our vet today and they don't know what is going on with him. My vet is running blood tests and should have results tomorrow. I hope so much it is nothing serious!
I may need to skip the NAS this year altogether because of the vet bills but it is a small price to pay if my poor Winnie gets better!
It may be silly to worry myself sick because of the cat but I love him so much! I don't even care what I wear this week and cannot bother with the pictures...

Oh Sveta, I know how hard this is, and how quickly the vet bills add up. But I hope you get some answers so you can get Winnie back to health.

It's not silly at all. I still get a little teary each day since we lost our sweet old dog last weekend -- its hard to look at the spots where he liked to lay and not see him there anymore. Pets are family.

Oh, Sveta, I am a total kitty lover and have two precious ones that are the love of my life and the most loyal friends I have. I completely understand what you are going through right now.

There has to be an answer for this fever, vomiting, lethargy and the doldrums. I'm glad you invested in the tests. Does your cat go outside? Has it ingested anything that was sitting out that may have disrupted its system or appetite? No bug spray? No new plants?

Sometimes they just need to get something out of their system. My cats don't go outside, so I can pretty well monitor what they've been eating. I give them fresh spring water every day or every other day. When they are not eating well, I give them baby food, which I hear is easy to digest.

Oh, poor fur baby I'm so glad you took him to the vet, and hope you get some info tomorrow, or he starts to feel better on his own!

It's tough when you want to help them, but have no idea what works . . .and you don't want your other kitty to get sick either :-\

Poor baby! Are you able to give Winnie Pedialyte to prevent the vomiting from causing dehydration? My kitty had a bad virus once and we had to force feed him syringes full of Pedialyte with a crushed L-Lysine tablet to keep him hydrated and help kill the virus. Canned food can also help the hydration.

My thoughts are with you both - I hope you have some answers from the tests.

Sveta - it is not silly at all to worry so about your Winnie! We love our fur babies and it is totally understandable. I second Rae's suggestion about the Pedialyte - we have had to do the same in order to keep our baby hydrated. I'm hoping they find out quickly what's wrong with Winnie and get to making him better. I'm sending healing vibes for Winnie and hugs for Momma Sveta!

Thank you all so much for the therapy - both for Winnie and for me!
Vet put him on some medicine (don't remember the names) to help with vomiting and promote his appetite as well as injected some fluids under his skin to keep him hydrated and also gave hime some medicine for the fever. In other words my poor baby was full of drugs last night and was very tired adn hid under the bed (his favorite hiding place where he feels safe: this is his feral upbringing).
However he ate that little amount of food i left with him during the night and was hungry and begging for food this morning! I hope it is a sign that he is getting better. The vet did not call yet with blood work results and I keep my finges crossed that nothing serious is found...

Another update: just got a call from my vet and all blood work is good, no concerns! <happy dance>
The vet thinks it must be some virus he is fighting. However I want to explore if there is any immune system boosters for cats as Winnie had a similar issue 5 monts ago as well and none of my other two kitties had anything of the kind. I wonder if his immune system is weaker for some reason and something can be done about it.

Anyway, we both feel much better today - I ma sure our good vibes and wishes helped. Thanks!!!!

Oh Sveta, I just saw this! What a harrowing few days for you and your sweet Winnie. I'm so glad he is feeling better, and the blood work shows nothing too dire. It does sound like a virus....I don't know anything about kitties and immune systems, but I would think that the highest-quality food you could find would be one route to helping with immune system functioning, etc.

Our Grover (a dog, not a kitty!) had lots of digestive problems and was diagnosed with colitis by the vet. He was a shelter pup, so who knows what sort of diet/lifestyle he had for the first year of his life. Anyway, we buy a very high-grade dog food for him that is dehydrated fresh food (just add water at home), with no fillers like most pet foods. He loves it and it has taken care of his tummy issues, made his coat soft and beautiful, etc. It's from Honest Kitchen (they make kitty food too, just in case you're interested).

Sorry if that sounded like too much of a sales pitch :). We were just at the end of our rope with his tummy issues, and this food resolved them, so we are big fans! I am convinced that he will have a longer life because he is eating so well, along with lots and lots of daily exercise and cuddling...

So glad the crisis is over with Winnie!

Very good news! When my kitty Elliott was sick, the vet said that as long as cats eat, they are pretty much going to be fine. I think their immune systems are worse when they are stressed out about something, so it is nice he has a safe spot in the house to relax. Here's to a quick recovery!

OMG, poor kitty. Our cat once got hold of dental floss and had to have surgery. But he wouldn't eat anything afterward and we thought he was a goner. Then for no apparent reason he bounced right back and lived to the age of 19. So stick it out with your baby and keep us posted! They can be unpredictable critters.
