Orphan to outfit challenge: Dressed up mini & ankle strap wedges.

The skirt has been orphaned since I joined YLF and found out that I am too old for mini skirts.

I went on pinterest for denim mini inspiration & found an outfit like mine. It was on a younger model but I have never worn it this way before & liked how it looked on her. I know I am still probably too old. sigh....

The shoes were orphaned because I bought them to be comfortable for walking etc. I thought with wedge, crepe sole & round toe they would be. Well they are in those areas but the where the leather ends across my foot it digs in with lots of walking. I wore them last night with some standing but not a lot of walking & they were fine. Are they dated with that round toe?

I don't know about age - you look fantastic and I am not a person who cares about age appropriateness. But that is a bit short at any age. I only wear skirts this short on vacation in beachy places, with flats. And my legs are not as long, so nothing is ever that short on me.

Actually, no, they're not at all dated with the rounded toe. You look very cool.

I'm with Una. Not too young per se, but pretty short in general. I'm a mini wearer, too, at 43 but just this year am really starting to feel better in slightly longer lengths. This looks great, as long as you are comfortable in it.

Love the outfit, I vote wear it. You have some nice getaway sticks, and the whole outfit is really cute.

I'm also not too concerned with age appropriateness. I think Angie once said something like we'd know it if it's too young. I do like a bit more coverage in general but would possibly wear a skirt this length with tights. I like the shoes.

I don't think the wedges look dated! I wonder if they'd be comfortable once you broke them in. Of course, you might not like them enough to bother ...

The skirt is out of my comfort zone for length. You certainly have the figure to wear the skirt, and I think by keeping the top more covered you do bring balance.

BJ I could try it with sneaks. I used to wear minis with sneaks but wanted to look less like a teenager in it.

Una I don't mind this length on others. For me it is an age question.

I don't care much about the age issue - if I did, I probably wouldn't wear half the clothes in my wardrobe! That said, I do think that if you're over 40 your skirt would be best a little longer when wearing it with nude hose. Under 40, any length is fine.

My favorite pair of heels have round toes, and I wear them a lot. I still see them in the stores so I don't think they are dated.

I still wore minis until 50. It think the "rules" (if you care to call them that) about age appropriate dressing are different for women in their 40s than 50s, and you are in your 40s. So go for it! And the shoes, are not dated at all. I like them.

First, I love the way that you've styled this. The long jacket and loose top with the mini do a great job of balancing out the exposure of the skirt. And round toed wedges? Perfectly lovely. Trend is going toward pointy, but round toes are firmly in the mainstream still.

On the skirt...The skirt is cute, but it is shorter than I would wear. It isn't a question of age for me, it is a practical consideration. At 20 after I rode up the escalator behind a friend wearing a mini that short. I had no idea you could see so much so well from that vantage point. From then on, longer minis for me or short shorts.

ETA: LOL Elle! I promise, I didn't mean that I saw that much. Just that I saw a lot lot more leg than she probably realized she was showing. Have a great evening, you lovely thing, you!

Thanks everyone. I don't buy skirts this short anymore but wanted to see if I could get some wear out of this one. I am very aware not to bend over etc in short skirts & how I sit, with my purse in my lap. I don't think my underwear can be seen on an escalator. It isn't as short as it looks. It is short but it isn't one that just covers my butt. It comes to almost mid thigh. My inspiration model Miranda Kerr wore hers shorter, though she is younger. My purpose for the post though is to get opinions from different people so I will probably go back to not wearing it. http://pinterest.com/pin/305400418451461492/

Not wearing the skirt is a good option if it's not you any more.

With the sneaks, now that you are older and that you are wearing the jacket, sneakers make the whole vibe more mature but also really youthful. Like you know you can sex it up with the rest of them but you don't need to try so hard any more. Which in my book is way more attractive.

BJ I never wore heels with my mini to downplay sexiness. If I wanted to do sexy I would show cleavage. I never show cleavage as I think breasts are private. It is only when I went on pinterest to look for a more grown up version I found the pic with the heels & also I'm trying to wear more than one orphan per outfit this week as I have so many, so the shoes ended up in this one.

You have the figure for it, Elle. So if it still feels "you" wear the skirt! But if the shoes hurt, pass them along. I think I've made more "mistakes" with footwear than anything else, and it is so frustrating. Clearly, you went through a considered thought process here, trying to make sure they would work - and then, darn, they hurt in the very place you didn't think about. (And who would -- they look fine in that area!!) I say, if Angie's stretch by wearing damp socks trick does not work, say goodbye to those cute shoes!
