Have you seen it yet? It's a Netflix exclusive. We're about halfway through the episodes and I just love it. I also loved House of Cards but I think I might like this show even better.

Hmm, maybe this is what I should check out while I anxiously await the return of Breaking Bad. You're the third person I've heard give a recommendation, so I will have to give it a try.

I have enjoyed House of Cards so far. They film that in my city, so it's been entertaining to play "spot the location" (hey, I know that coffee shop -- it's in the Four Seasons! etc.).

I allow myself to watch it only while on our elliptical machine. Great fitness boost. Jason Biggs is irritating in it though (or maybe it's his character). At first Piper was annoying too but now she's getting a bit more gritty I am enjoying her more. Hilarious dialogue.

I'm really loving how the show is getting into the different inmates' backstories and not just focusing on the lead character! I also like how it's telling some pretty realistic stories while still being fairly light and comedic. I will have to read the book at some point.

I am quite pleased with the high quality of the Netflix-exclusive shows I've watched so far (this one, House of Cards, and the 4th season of Arrested Development).

I never got into Breaking Bad - I watched the first five or so episodes and it was so depressing to me! All my friends love it, though.

I've seen three episodes now and I'm hooked. I am enjoying the character development too.

Breaking Bad is not what you'd call uplifting. Intense, yes. Uplifting, no. My husband has never watched it, even though he was a huge Sopranos fan, so he can handle some dark stuff. But the content of the show can be a bit rough for a family with a loved one who is struggling with substance abuse.

Breaking Bad goes down as one of the very best TV series of all time - right up there with BSG, the Wire and Friday Night Lights. Brilliant doesn't even come close to describing these TV shoes at the Cox Castle. Absolutely genius. All very sad and depressing. Real. Especially the Wire. Of course BSG is not real at all!! But extremely powerful. Lots of female empowerment.

Wallander with Kenneth Brannagh is probably our next fave. They leave Downton Abbey in the dust in my highly opinionated opinion!

Homeland was good too. But not as good as the others. Loved the more lighthearted approach of Suits. Fringe was fun. The Killing - set in Seattle - was a little disappointing.

Mad Men I judge differently because it is an aesthetic masterpiece, which counts for a lot. It went downhill half way, but we thoroughly enjoyed the first three seasons.

Hours of Cards was alright. Horses for Courses I guess!!!

I've watched 3 episodes of Orange Is the New Black, and am enjoying it! The first episode was pushing my modesty limits though. Episodes 2 & 3 better, and I hope they're done using graphic scenes to hold my interest! (I blush easily!)

Angie - I don't think this 'female prison' show is what you're expecting. It isn't dark and depressing. The main character is quite endearing (in her fluffy WASP way), and the insights into the characters backgrounds takes it out of prison too.

I couldn't stay with House of Cards. After about half dozen episodes -- too much depravity in everyone's moral fiber. Although I've heard some political types say it's pretty spot on with the power plays and forming alliances/agreements/etc.

I just heard talk today about this year being the last chance for Bryan Cranston to get an Emmy - and I wish he'd get it. To think that he was Malcolm's dad and now this chemistry teacher turned super dark drug lord. . . his range is pretty amazing.

Ooh, Wallander! I ADORE Kenneth Brannagh ever since his soliloquy in Much Ado About Nothing I must look this series up. I hope it's on Netflix (otherwise I must turn to my 'technical staff' to procure this for me . . . . . . . )

I've tried Mad Men and just couldn't get hooked. It went the way of The Office, and Friday Night Lights. I think I'm missing something, or I'm miswired, that I couldn't get interested

I am enjoying Orange is the New Black. I enjoyed House of Cards but Mr. K and I were watching it together until we weren't, and I haven't had the heart to go back to it.

And because of this thread I watched the first two episodes of Breaking Bad today and I am totally hooked! (Fun fact: I went to the Dodgers game last night and saw Bryan Cranston there!)

Angie, we love the same shows! BSG and Friday Night Lights are my all-time top two. We also love Homeland, and the first few seasons of Fringe (I find all JJ Abrams shows disintegrate by the fourth season), although I do want to go back and watch the rest of it. Have you tried White Collar? I bet you'd like it.

I couldn't watch Breaking Bad, though. It was just too much for me at this stage of my life. Is Orange is the New Black as intense and dark as Breaking Bad?

No, I would not say that OITNB is anywhere near as dark as Breaking Bad. It's prison, yes, and there are parts that are not comfortable to watch, but it's not as bleak as, say, Oz. The language is not so brutal either. There is a sense of humor in it, too, which is true of BB, but the overall tone is lighter.

I should add, however, that BB got darker as the seasons went on. I'm only 4-5 episodes into OITNB.

An aside about The Killing -- I like it but that first case dragged on too long into a second season, IMHO. The new season is an improvement to me. I love Holder. And it's fun to see Chief Tyrol from BSG even if it's not a major role.

Don't worry, Sara! People reccommend shows to us all the time that do not hold our interest. And I am probabaly doing the same - but I am very opinionated about TV shows and have to share what I think anyway!!! It's all good :). Greg and I like dark, depressing, gritty, stuff without "the Hollywood endings". Horses for Courses I guess! Seinfeld was the best comedy series ever made, and the Office is a close second. We watch rerun after rerun after rerun after rerun. Such intelligent humour, and killer chemistry between the actors. Sex and the City was not my cup of tea at all. But again - horses for courses. xox

High five Ariadne and Mary! (My all time top two too - although I might have the Wire as a tie for second place). Breaking Bad just gets better and better, I think. AND YOU SAW BRYAN CRANSTON!!!! Good grief.

We have watched White Collar, Ariadne. Was not compelling enough. Although I highly recommend Suits - as the wrinting is much, much better.

Good to know about the Killing, Janet. Perhaps we will venture into Season 3.

So, Netflix had Wallander (both the British and the original Swedish series), and White Collar Fun to have something to look forward to watching!

Now I just need to get my daughter's copy of The Wire, and somehow get my hands on Suits and Homeland . . .

Adriane, I agree about Fringe (although I never made the 4 season connection ;-)) and enjoyed it for a while. Then I missed many episodes and could never feel up to speed, or like I cared to get up to speed!

I just started watching Orange is the New Black and so far I'm really enjoying it.

I love Breaking Bad, partly because I live in Albuquerque where it's filmed. It's fun to watch the show and recognize the locations.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention! My DD and I watched 2 episodes of OITNB on Sunday and I really enjoyed it. Though a couple of the scenes were a bit awkward to watch with your daughter!

I need to catch up on BB. I kind of got busy and never got back to that show. I am looking forward to checking out OITNB. I've seen the ads for it and it looked interesting. I've got House of Cards in the queue, FNL too.

Loved Wallander on Netflix. I'm dying to see the Wire but I'll be waiting decades before it shows up on Netflix. I also really liked the series Luther and loved the Killing. Planning on reading G of Thrones before watching the series.
