Opinions On Bailey 44 Dress, Please

Hi Everyone!

When I was at Anthropologie yesterday I took a couple dressing room photos of Laura's Bailey 44 tank dress. I think it looks pretty good from the front, but I'm wondering if the back looks okay? Please feel free to be honest.

I just got a knit dress from Target that is pretty cute and I'm looking to add some more knit dresses to my wardrobe ASAP since the temperatures are going to be extra hot this week.

Thanks, Tanya! Well, I usually go for thicker straps since my shoulders are so broad, I feel like I have little pouches of skin that stick out around my armpits in the back. You can kind of see it in the photos. I don't know, maybe I'm just overly sensitive to it since it happens to me with tops and dresses a lot.

I think you're overly sensitive, and I think that this dress looks great on you! My sister is obsessed with that "skin that sticks out around the armpits", too, and honestly, if you start looking around, everyone's got it, and no one is noticing (IMO).

It looks SO gorgeous from the front, who cares about the back!? My first impression of the back shot was wow: nice broad shoulders (I happen to appreciate strong shoulders), whereas I think the front view makes your build look more petite. I'm thinking this difference has more to do with the angle of the shot (and the fact that we have just the upper third of your body in the back view) than with real life. Wonderful dress on you! I vote keep!

Firecracker, it's funny because I feel like from the front I'm mostly an hourglass, but from the back I'm mostly an inverted triangle. So I always have to check front and back view to make sure the fit of an item is good for both body types.

I had a patient who was obsessed with the little bits near her arm pit too - but really; that's mostly breast tissue. :p

Lol, thanks everyone! Your opinions are really helpful. I guess because it's a little more than I'd usually spend on a knit dress, I want to make sure it looks good from all angles before I take the plunge.

I get worried about that area under the arms, too. But I don't see any thing that would keep me from getting that dress. It looks great.

This is so perfect on you, Ana. Isn't it comfy? I wore it out to dinner and was pleased at how forgiving it was And my girlfriend went and bought one in green yesterday! I did not see the back issues AT ALL, which goes to show that we do not always see ourselves as others see us. The dress looks a tad longer on you than on me, which I really prefer.

Did you buy it? My friend said yesterday that our stores are almost sold out.

It looks really good on you! But a second look makes me wonder about the distance between the straps. The fact that they are a little wide apart, with the rounded curve, is meant to bring out broadness in the shoulders. If you are petite, this dress will always look better with heels for some height to balance the shoulders' broadness.

Do you have some comfy relaxed heels or platforms to wear it with?

Do you want to put emphasis on your upper body? You do have a fantastic back and beautiful shoulders to boot. You can certainly afford to show them off.
In any case, you do look lovely in this dress and this style does fit you.

I love it on you.

It's so funny the way our own perceived figure "flaws" can loom in our minds. I do not see the supposed back fat at all! I do get that you have broad shoulders, but that's a plus in my book. I agree with Krish that a bit of a wedge might balance the look.

I think it looks great on you! I see no back issues.

I tried it too and liked it, but didn't love it on me. I kept wanting to adjust some proportion of it. Do you know how that is? When a garment is *this* close to working well but isn't quite it? It was shorter on me that's it is on you, which was part of the issue.

Laura, I didn't buy it, but I'm going this afternoon to pick it up. Our store was out of most sizes in green, but had a lot of navy ones left. Hopefully my size will still be there.

Krishnidoux, thank you for the styling suggestions! I don't have any colorful wedges right now, but they're on my "To-Buy" list. I just bought some flat, thong-type sandals that are nude and gold, so I might wear those until I can find the right shoes. I'm not technically petite, but I am short 5'3" which is maybe why the dress is longer on me. I have to get dresses hemmed a lot, so I'm always excited when I find one that doesn't need hemming.

That's the "over and under" dress, isn't it? I've been drooling over it _forever_, but I have to say it looks even better on you than I could have possibly imagined for myself. Love the waist detailing, it draws (subtle) attention to your fabulous figure!

I vote for the navy; without seeing the green on you, I worry that it might be too "cool" for your coloring.

The dress looks lovely on you! I agree with everyone else that you have gorgeous shoulders and should be flaunting them! I get concerned over the armpit tissue thing but I think we all scrutinize ourselves a wee bit too much. A wedge heel would look great with it!
