Opinion on Top needed

I have had this top for a long time (so what else is new?). It is silk and from Mexx (I miss Mexx). I love the top but find it hard to style. It is sheer so I wear a brown camisole under it. It is actually tunic length but I don't care for it at that length.
I have styled it with a pair of old C of H bootcut jeans.
Please be honest and give me your opinion. Should I keep this top and if you have other styling ideas I would appreciate them.

I miss Mexx too. Have you got it tucked in/under here? I like this a lot on you, and see it as a classic top. Not trendy and not dated. I had one like this - and now that I think about it, I bet it was Mexx too - that I got rid of a few years ago, and often wish I hadn't. How about wearing it with a sleeveless trench/gilet thing, or a cashmere wrap and a fedora?

I like it too and also see it as classic. I would keep it. I like lisa's gilet idea. You could also try layering a sleeveless top or vest over it, so that you only see the sleeves. If you don't like the length, you could have it shortened. I have done that with a few tops (it is hard to find shorter tops at do not need to be tucked length).

I like this top too. I do sympathise about how sheer it is, I have a few shirts that should be very cool to wear in summer, but require a layer underneath. I would wear this top with skinny jeans and a statement belt.

Lisap I have a dark brown fedora. I have the top tucked in but it starts to look bulky because of all the fabric. Shortening it would help. Also a different belt like the unbelt that Angie discussed in her blog post would be a good idea. I like the idea of the wrap or vest. I will look for one. Not in dark brown though. Too matchy.
Brooklyn I need to get it shortened. I like the idea of the vest.

Thank you Bijou! The sheer part is tricky. I tried it with a brown camisole and a nude one. The brown one worked best.

I like it too - I think it is one of those tops you pull out twice a year and enjoy wearing but never become a workhorse. I think it looks great as is but shortening is a good idea.... I could see it with a fake fur vest, or a gilet, or even the right leather jacket over the top.

I'm going to disagree with the others. Anything that is sheer and requires extra layers just doesn't have a place in my wardrobe.

I like this blouse, it is flattering and I think it is very "you". Nonetheless I am like Sterling: no fussy clothes for me. It all depends upon your tolerance for fussiness.

Sheer blouses are special occasion blouses in my mind and that limits their usefulness. I worry that they will snag easily, and they are never comfy to wear. If you already have a special occasion wardrobe you prefer, I would give this away. Also, you are expressing doubt about this shirt so it's time to say goodbye.

I really like it, and like how you have styled it here. I think a furry vest would be a great styling option.

Agree that shortening it is the way to go, if you don't like it full length. then you'd have tucked/untucked options as well.

I think it does suit you so I'm not sure I'd give up unless you don't like having to wear a camisole.

I wonder what it would look like full length over skinny crops or white shorts. How long is it?

I agree that it looks classic. Also agree with suggestions for adding a vest, gilet, wrap, scarf, topper....maybe something with a bit of a bright color like orange or rust...

Great ideas Sal. No this top will never be a workhorse. I just don`t have that kind of lifestyle. I would wear it to a music concert or for a date night (I have never called it that before!) but that is it. That is okay. Everything doesn`t need to be working fulltime to stay in my closet.
You are right Sterling. I don`t generally wear sheer and fussy clothing. This top is actually comfortable. I would not wear it to work but then I am retired.<br>Staysfit it definitely is a special occasion blouse. Tops like that are rare in my closet and I don`t really want to buy anymore. I do hate worrying about my clothes. So far it hasn`t snagged.<br>Elizabeth another Mexx lover! I will get it shortened.<br>Texstyle it goes to my mid thigh. I don`t mind wearing a camisole for special occasions. It might look nice with shorts.
Chris I do like the idea of wearing it with rust or orange. The beads are orange/rust.

I think Lisap is really onto something because while I think it's flattering to you, the combination of sheer and what looks like animal print is not a familiar favorite for me.
But! I think Lisap is especially good at incorporating daring items into outfits that look grown up stylish.
I think you'd find that adding another component, like the ones she suggested would make you more comfortable and increase it's wearabilty.
I am practical and minimalist in my wardrobe but I love to see pretty things and I think this really is pretty on you.

Thank you Isabel! Yes I agree that Lisap is very good at styling in creative and daring ways that look "Grown up" I end up looking like I got dressed in the dark upside down when I try to be creative. I do like the idea of adding a third piece.

I like it, and I agree with you that everything doesn't need to work full time to have a place in your closet. I'd like to see it untucked, too. Would it work with your Jesse Kamm wide legs?

Well, I'm no good styling others, all I can say is : if the top belonged to me, I would wear it under a jacket, to add structure, and to have the print just as accent - sheerness would be less visible that way, too.

I agree with skylurker, but also, I took a moment to take a peek at some of your blog photos. I think more classic/structured styles suit you better, more defined neck lines - boatnecks, more "definitive" looking materials - not floaty fabrics, that sort of thing. I also especially liked the olive green outfit with the patterned scarf - I thought that outfit had the right amount and type of pattern. But I'm weird...

I like it, too, and think it looks really nice on you. I would try wearing different colors of camisoles under it, depending on what you wear it with. It reminds me of a peasant style tunic I made and later shortened to a blouson style, after I got tired of wearing it as a tunic. (Mine already had a narrow elastic waist, so I just shortened it to several inches below that waistline).

I will be the spanner. While I like the colour and the pattern a whole lot on you, I don't like the cut. The depth and width of the v neck, the cut through the torso... I feel like it should be either blousier or follow your form more.

Thank you for all the feedback. Jenn I hadn't thought of pairing the top with my Kamm pants. The colours work together but the materials are so different. Hmmm. Excellent ideas Skylurker. I would say you are great at styling others. Binkie you are not weird at all. You have described my style perfectly. I tend to wear classic structured pieces and olive green. Floaty fabrics are not my thing. Great ideas Firecracker.
You might be on to something Rachy. Probably the top is better under a jacket.
I will work on it Angie. Pouring rain today and Mr SF is occupied.

Looks like a date-night top, and worth keeping. I'd like to see it with the JK bottoms as well. Firecracker's remodel is inspirational. It might work as a layer over a simple tank dress (black or other colour) if you have one, or thrown over a bathing suit.

I like the top and the way you have styled it. It looks like it could be worn with white and natural linen bottoms. If you can wear orange. You might try it with that color.
