One more oldie to consider: alter or pack this skirt away for good?

I'm very ruthless about purging my wardrobe, but I've held on to a few items for sentimental reasons...or because I just love the pattern or color too much to let them go for good.

Ok, so this long-ish skirt from Peruvian Connection. Five to 10 years ago, I wore this all the time in the summer, but it's been lingering unworn for many years now. It just feels frumpy and out of fashion now.

I love the color/pattern beyond words (It's the pattern on my nancylee photo here on YLF.....see it?) and would like to refashion it somehow.

I'll have to take it to my seamstress to find out what's possible. Maybe a pencil skirt? It's made of long panels of fabric...fitted at the top and flaring out at the bottom.

Ideas? Advice?

Hmm. Maybe do what Shannon is planning with her skirt? Or can it be made into a flirty shorter skirt as Denise suggested to her?

Could you just shorten it into a knee length A-line skirt. I agree that the pattern is gorgeous, but the silhouette is a bit dated to my eye.

I would suggest pencil skirt. A-line in this sort of pattern reads very dated and '90s to me. I think a fuller skirt would be OK, but I think it has to be quite full to avoid the A-line silhouette, and I think that may require too much reconstruction on the part of the tailor or may not be possible!

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I'm not a fan of the A-line look for me, so your warning, Jyoti, is helpful. I'm leaning toward pencil skirt....then again, a flirty skirt might be fun.

Shannon, maybe I'll let you go first and let me know how it goes with your skirt alteration! hehe

That is such a great print - I vote flirty skirt over pencil skirt; I think it will better emphasize the style of the print.

I love the pattern and colors, Nancy. I like the idea of shortening it to a swishy skirt. But I'd not just cut it off at the hem, I'd ask them if it's possible to take the whole skirt up so that the skirt is fuller near the waist. Know what I mean?
