I’m new to TV and Netflix. Started with ‘The Crown’ in December, then watched ‘Bridgerton’. Watched some shows recommended in a thread started by Ms Mary https://youlookfab.com/welookf.....day-season Enjoyed ‘Molly’s Game’, ‘The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society’. Watched ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ on PBS.

Two new ‘flicks’ on Netflix to recommend.

We just finished MI5 on Britbox. It was funny because they ran through characters like I run through Kleenex. I really, really enjoyed it, though.

Earlier in the pandemic we watched all of the available seasons of Silent Witness. Now we’re watching a new season - season 21. Last night we watched Emma. (with a period). It was interesting to notice the differences between it and two earlier versions (1996 and 2009-10). I enjoyed it, mainly because I love Jane Austen.

I’d like to watch Nomadland. Part of it takes place in our county.

Sometimes I want to rewatch Altered Carbon ( only first season ) - gorgeous sci-fi series with some R-rated moments ( nudity, sex, violence ). It has Joel Kinnaman as a main character.
Full discloser: I love sci-fi books, movies, anime.

Just watched 3 seasons of the good Australian series, Wanted - very Thelma-and-Louise-esque.

I've recently rewatched Good Omens and Olive Kitterridge, and really enjoyed both. I've ordered the book Olive, Again to see what she's up to now.

All 5 seasons of The Affair were made available on Amazon Prime, so I've been bingeing on that. Good soapy intense family drama, with all kinds of twists and turns. I like that each episode is told from two different viewpoints. Sometimes it verges on the preposterous, but I'm definitely hooked.

Sal, I'd love to see The Luminaries. The novel was amazing. I need to find out where to watch it.

Rachylou, I LOVED The Good Place!!

We are watching For All Mankind on Apple+ and enjoying it a lot.

And I just started this crazy show called The One on Netflix and it's... crazy but good. Set in the near future about how science can match you with your ONE perfect romantic partner. And then there's a murder-mystery aspect, too. Crazy but good!

Laurie, I really liked Wanted too.

Just finished the last season of Homeland, which was excellent.

Can also recommend Sorjonen if you are into Scandi Noir (this one has an eerie vibe, it took me a while to get into it, but ended up loving it).

Also watched another Scandi crime series, Rebecka Martinsson which was OK, but not super great (and the main character was played by a different actress in season 2, which didn't really work for me).

Anything set in Sweden, Norway or Ireland that involves grim scenery, dead bodies, and a rumpled Volvo-driving DCI.

@slimcat and Lisap: I'm so with both of you. Love Joel Kinnaman in the Killing and AC. I'm watching the Tunnel now. I think the US version was the Bridge. It's not bad. What is it about dark, Scandi murder mysteries that I love so much? I always thought it was a personality flaw!

Kelly, I love dark Scandinavian murder mysteries, too! I recommend Bordertown. It’s in Finnish, so you have to pay attention, but really good.

Done most of the good and grim Nordic Noirs. The Finnish and Icelandic ones are particularly good. Another vote for Sorjonen.

Just finished The Handmaid's Tale. One of the very best TV shows of all time. Extremely complex characters. Many strong females. VERY hard to watch as a women, but worth it. INTENSE and worthy of its multiple awards.

Slim Cat, watch The Expanse. I thought it was much better than Altered Carbon.

@Jaileen: Right on! I know you like the Inspector Lynley mysteries too. I'm always interested in what you're reading. I loved Bordertown! I fear I've watched them all--I'm always looking for new content.

Kelly, we’re starting Inspector Lewis. I couldn’t find the beginning streaming anywhere, so I’m getting dvds (by season) from the library. The contrast between Lewis and Morse was a running gag, and now the same thing is going on with his “bag man”, Hathaway.

I really like the character Hathaway. The actor that portrays him is wonderful. American shows I've liked are the Wire and Bosch. Lots of others but those both have a dark, gritty feel.

I thought The Dig was very good. Sad but uplifting at the same time.

Nomadland was beautifully done. Not for someone who wants action or a neat story resolution. But sad and contemplative and amazing performances, with beautiful scenery. There's a scene overlooking the Badlands that looks like it was filmed from almost the exact same spot where my husband and I camped last fall.

I got sucked thoroughly into Star Trek: Discovery recently and finished all three seasons. I love Sonequa Martin-Green and Michelle Yeoh (plus, Doug Jones, Rainn Wilson and Tig Notaro, yay!), and I enjoyed the series.

Speaking of Tig Notaro, I've been watching One Mississippi, which I'm enjoying.

Ditto to Angie, The Expanse is very good. I need to catch up on that -- I think I left off at season 3.

Have any of you watched The Patriot on Amazon Prime? Sort of dark comedic drama, reminds me a little of In Bruges, which I loved.

Sal, I thought Aytypical was very good!

And I loved Ted Lasso. Just loved. Right up there with Schitt's Creek in my book. A lovely antidote to the cynicism in the world.

Janet, you and I like the same types of shows. Ditto everything. Star Trek Discovery was FABULOUS. Loved the strong female leads. Ted Lasso was brilliant British humour.

JAileen is Sorjonen! Same show. Dark, but awesomely Finnish.

Kelly and JAileen, have you seen Trapped? It's Icelandic. Great.

I couldn’t with Ted Lasso . Husband loves it but I bailed after 2 episodes . Something about the oh shucks southern thing doesn’t work for me .

Getting set to watch Nomadland in a day or so . Also Robin Wright’s Land .

Angie, after watching Bordertown, or Sorjonen, I was enthralled with the idea of going to Finland, and maybe St Petersburg. My husband gave me these for Christmas. So far I haven’t studied any Finnish phrases. My MO is looking at guidebooks on the plane. It’s a running joke in our family.

Lisa, i wasn’t sure about TL after the first episode but decided to stay with it. It definitely grew on me. Schitt’s Creek also didn’t win me over until about the third episode.

I've been watching series and documentaries in my own language. That has been refreshing and confidence boosting(?). It is actually quite rare to find quality entertainment outside Hollywood/anglosphere in the rest of the West. (Germany and France not included, not many other euros speak those languages either, but anyway).
And I have seen the Allen/Farrow-docu from HBO. What a creepster...
Edit: oh wow, read the earlier replies and you all are watching scandi-shows. Well well, there you have it, I am behind AGAIN, lol.

We have been watching Escape to the Country. It has realtors in GB showing three houses to usually couples escaping from the city.
Also Nadiya ( spelling?) Bakes, a British Bake-off Winner and yummy looking food, if you like food shows.

‘Escape to the Country’ is awesome! I love the ‘warts and all’ aspect of the show. So relaxed when contrasted with the makeover shows with all the super pristine interiors. DH is a devotee of ‘Hometown’ and I do find the tone of the show gentle and sweet.
