On the knit skirt bandwagon - YouLookFab Forum

I've been inspired by Angie's recent posts on wearing pencil skirts and knit skirts, as well as by all the fab outfits YLFers are creating with the Vince Camuto tube skirts. I have a black knit pencil skirt I made as a trial. I didn't like it well enough to repeat it, but I hung it in my closet thinking I might try to wear it sometime.
I wore it today with the olive and black print silk blouse I got at NAS. This outfit was also inspired by my DH. I asked, "What should I wear to work today?" and he said, "Hmmm. How about something green?" He's helpful that way! He doesn't pay much attention to clothes, but he does try to come up with suggestions when I ask.
Here's today's outfit:
Olive print silk placket-front blouse (Nexx)
Black knit pencil skirt (made by me)
Black ballet flats (AGL)
brass and silver jewelry (Marjorie Baer)

I love this outfit! The shirt is so appealing and adds a lot of interest, and the skirt is beautiful.

Something green, eh? What a great idea! Love the top and the silhouette. The skirt is lovely. It reminds me of a Halogen in shape. What don't you like about it? Would you prefer a knit with more shaping? taper? Is it that it's The VC is a little longer and more tapered, but that only one look.

I'd love to see a black skirt in a slightly textured knit. Of course, with my luck, it would just attract lint!

Beth Ann, I have a fraught relationship with straight and pencil skirts. Or lots of skirts. I want to wear them but have a hard time getting the length and fit right, so that I feel un-frumpy in them. With this skirt, I wanted to try making a tube-type skirt. And I made it specifically to try wearing under a near-orphan red tunic, and I didn't much like the two together. The skirt isn't as fitted as a tube skirt might be, and yet it's close-fitting enough that I didn't really want to make it smaller. As it is, I will not wear it without something covering my back side.
And, funny you should mention texture. I have made a similar black skirt out of a ruffled fabric, which I do sometimes wear. It's tighter and slightly above the knee.
So maybe I should try a textured knit skirt, a couple of inches below knee-length, and closer fitting than the one I'm wearing today.

You look great! I like the skirt, too, and I love when you wear anything you've made yourself. You are talented and have such great taste. I hear you on finding pencils and tubes difficult. I feel very exposed in them, and the fit is so hard to get right.

I love how the tunic had gold in it and the jewelery sets it off to perfection. This is a long and lean silhouette that you pull off SO well. I love this!

The blouse is so beautiful on you. The skirt looks good at it, and good for you for rescuing an orphan. I agree with Kelly -- you could make these skirts in many colours and play around until you get the length and taper just so. You wear it well!

Kelly and Suz, I will have to try making some more tube skirts and pencil skirts. There are just so many other things I want to sew, too! I need to get back in my sewing room. It has been too nice out to sew lately.
