Dear Fabbers,

I wear scarves. Almost every day with every outfit. I have collected my many scarves for many years and I have scarves in different materials, patterns, sizes and colours. A scarf can entirely change an outfit. There are so many ways to wear a scarf. Some scarves are very serious and others are playful. The playful or quirky scarves are my favorites.

Do you like wearing scarves? And what are your favorites? Do you have any funny or unusual scarves?

I would love to hear about your scarves and see your favourites.

I do love scarves - and have a collection I have to keep editing as I always seem to be buying a new scarf. . A lot of it comes from a love for textiles and prints, and I can experiment with patterns and mixes and colours I wouldn't necessarily wear in a piece of clothing. I stick to high-quality scarves in natural fibres, and don't do playful or quirky. (no cats, no words, etc). I lost my all-time favourite scarf this past fall (see find below) - after wearing it for probably 10 years. I replaced it this winter in a different colour (mid-blue) , and while it's fun to wear and I'm getting the hang of it, it's not the same as the original and I may "have to" fork out more $$ for the black/original version. My favourite shape is a huge square, and favourite fabric is a thin silk chiffon.

I'm a wardrobe minimalist lately, and thus I have only two scarves. One is a silk burgundy leopard print, the other is a linen pastel rainbow stripes with a few metallic fibers. I can't show pictures because I'm not an active member yet.

They do make me feel more put together when I wear them--it's such an easy way to brighten up an outfit. Some of your scarves are very creative.

LisaP, the black and white scull scarf is stunning. I totally understand you miss it. The blue is beautiful too, but I understand what you mean.
Although an iconic scarf, doesn’t it still qualify as quirky (in the most wonderful sense of the word) ?

Love my scarves! They can elevate the simplest of outfits into distinctive and memorable outfits. They are a great way to tie colors together.

I’ve started collecting graphic 60’s and 70’s Vera Neumann scarves, with or without the “lady bug” mark. Generally these are 22-30 inch squares, so I wear them cowboy style, or as an ascot in the neckline of a shirt. A couple are 16” squares, which is neckerchief only, or as an accent on my handbag.

I have the frame to manage much larger pieces, but there’s something fun and quirky about Vera scarves that I can’t quite resist. Some are silk, some acetate or nylon, all of them are fun.

I also find thrift store treasures, but again, size matters ;). I’m picky about the level of contrast in a scarf (not too much white) and what shows when it’s folded.

I have a handful of scarves. The ones below are the ones I wear the most. I am very picky on weight and drape because I don’t want to add bulk on my chest. My favs drape pretty flat. Most have a colorful and/or quirky element, such as the burgundy one with sequins and fringe (fav way to dress up a winter outfit) or lime green with pineapple print. I also have a plain rust pashmina rectangle scarf (not shown) that I wear the most frequently, mostly with outerwear or to add warmth and interest to a winter or fall outfit. I also wear that one traveling as it can double as a blanket.

Question: Katerina, do you wear scarves in the summer? I find them too hot and fussy in our hot and humid summers, which are also long. So scarves are three seasons only for me.

I love scarves, and I always wear them for warmth in the winter. They are a thing I like to own and collect.

When I travel, scarves are the only thing I actively seek out as souvenirs.

I do find, however, that they can detract from a look that calls for simple lines and not drape.

Toban, great scarfs and they are so you! The pineapple is fun and the blue one is TDF. Yes, I wear scarves summertime too, but not on the hottest days. I have some thin cotton, linen and small silks. I will post some pictures of the summer scarves tomorrow.

Oh Katerina -- I love scarfs. I love them so much. Yet I cannot wear a scarf and make it look either natural or effortless. Perhaps it is that they add bulk and I am uncomfortable with that bulk.

I am interested in seeing your summer scarfs as well. Perhaps I can learn from you.

I am a big fan of scarves. I always wear one with a coat or jacket, and I often wear one with an outfit in the winter. Because my wardrobe isn't terribly varied in colour but I enjoy shoes in many different hues, I sometimes wear a scarf to pick up the colour of the shoes or to tie them into an outfit. I buy almost exclusively Alexander McQueen scarves, so I don't have very many - only about seven or eight - but they all get a fair amount of wear.

While I love the thought of scarves and own many, I find them difficult to wear without feeling overwhelmed.

It might be because I have broad shoulders comparatively to my height.

As a Canadian, I am already forced to wear outdoor scarves for half of the year, so in the winter it feels too much to put one on top of the other.

Another problem for me are the prints, as I like to wear prints in my outfits. So I'm always on the lookout for solid color scarves in an interesting texture.

I find I own more scarves than I wear them.

I inheritated a good silk scarves collection from my mtoher and grandmother, in shades that suit them mor than me.

Men for some reason seem to want to present me with scarves (?).

You, by contrast, Katerina, are the absolute queen of scarves and your WIW'S are delightful lessons every time.

I LOVE a scarf.l find they really tie an outfit together,add a certain panache and in our climate are a good way of adding a little warmth in our less than tropical summers,l have quite a few and am always on the look out for interesting ones.l think if I was a big jewellery wearer I probably wouldn’t wear scarves as much but for me they take the place of statement necklaces and are more practical.I would love to show you my collection but it’s now quite late here and my husband would think I was bonkers if I suddenly start photographing all my scarves!Anyway alot of them are quite plain just in good colours for my wardrobe.I really enjoy seeing all your fun scarves and how you wear them.

I love scarves but always seem to wrap them the same way and I think they often overwhelm my petite frame. I wear them anyway because I run cold and I like beautiful textiles!

Katerina, you seem to know many different ways to tie a scarf- maybe sometime you could post about your techniques!

I love scarves. I'm in Texas, and we get relatively mild winters. I love how a lightweight scarf can serve me for almost half the year (NOT summer, though because stupid hot)

I've been a fan of pashmina's. With short hair, and running cold, I need something around my neck. The pashmina is lighter than a traditional winter scarf, but heavier and more fluid than a chiffon or silk scarf. Of the 7 Scarves I own, 5 were gifts! The one that is getting the most wear has a charcoal ground with foxes in red and yellow given to me by my Mom! It is light weight and very big/long,

I am hankering after a traditional heavy silk carre (Hermes?) and have been collecting ideas. Haven't seen anything yet that tempts me to pull the trigger.

I wear scarves a lot! In winter, I wear them because I have to (and unlike some, I will layer indoor and outdoor scarves if the temperatures are low). And in spring/ fall I wear them to add "pop" to an outfit and to combat variable temperatures. I do tend to leave them aside in our hot, humid summers, although I have one or two that can be useful in air conditioned environments even then.

I don't have photos of most of mine (will have to do custom Finds) but I have more than is probably smart. A few samples only, outdoor and indoor, below...

Katerina, you have some really fun scarves! I wear a lot of scarves, especially with winter outfits to add a layer warmth, and while mine are all classic and/or pretty, I’d enjoy adding some that are purely fun.

There is no one better than you in scarf department Katerina- but these are hilarious. Love them .....except maybe the dog- scary looking dude- lol. Bet you paid a good “money” on that first one
I just purchased a new kitty scarf. Two of my favorite scarves : a gift from a friend who traveled to Greece and is hand painted and another friend who sent a silk scarf with an embroidered heron from China. Both are around 25 years old. I too like to pick up scarves or unusual brooches when I travel. I love going into second hand or consignment stores when I travel too because you can get some great scarves and brooches that people just don’t have a clue and pitched.
Thanks to Katerina for the post and all the friends that posted great looks. Nice to know I am in great company.

I love scarves and also wear one almost daily and have them in many fabrics, shapes and sizes. I can only wish that I could wear them as well as you do. Probably my favorites are silk or rayon as I can wear them year round. I also really like cotton bandana type square scarves for casual wear, especially in summer.

As a dedicated thrifter I of course have some scarves! I wear them in spurts and will take some pictures of my favorites later and add them here.

I enjoy scarves and wear them from time to time, usually to provide warmth around my neck. It is not a big part of my style as I can feel a bit overwhelmed by scarves. My most complimented scarf is one that has a matching dress, the grey floral one and I enjoy wearing these together. The red scarf with Olive Oil I have had for a long time and it is very big and warm, fun to wear on cold days and works well with my red boots.
The last two scarves are my more recent purchases and I like the pop of colour that they add to outfits.

The floral one is thin wool, 2 years old. The black one and grey are recently purchased.

I don't always wear my scarves but I don't get rid of them either. I have a box full of them, but they don't take up that much room. Sometimes I like to unfold them, touch them, and think about the memories the scarves can conjure.

I love seeing all these scarves! Most of mine, except for two Hermes scarves that were gifts from my husband, are thrift-shop finds. I look for vintage Italian silks with hand-rolled hems, in colors that look good next to my face. The scarves I buy new are usually cashmere or pashmina mufflers in soft pastels, but the one I reach for most often is my Acne "Columbus" scarf, a thin cotton/silk blend printed with an antique map of Scandinavia. It was black on white, but I dyed it pale blue, so it goes with almost everything I own.
