This dress, purchased about 8 weeks ago, was a complete impulse, throw-caution-to-the-wind wildcard buy, influenced by my gorgeously pretty boho-casual retail buyer friend who said it was the store's best-selling dress last year (thus repeated) . She wove a tale of how cute it would be with a leather jacket thrown on top and worn out for dinner with " the girls". Well that sucked me right in - although I don't go out for dinner "with the girls" - what girls? lol. This style is way out of my comfort zone, and a little contrary to my style aspirations, but you know something? It made me feel prettier, more feminine, and lightened the mood. I can see it getting a bit of wear!
Today was my first "get my hair in order" appointment. After a year of no colour, I couldn't take it anymore and had a few foils done, and a major trim . Complete change in where my hair is parted and how she styled it, and I like it! The idea is to keep the back short while the bangs and top layers grow. Our own Deborah Gates' new cut is my inspiration right now.
I like to dress nicely for hair appointment - it makes the event more special and a planned outfit gives the new hair some context - if that makes any sense. So out came the dress, which I had hidden away in my closet thinking it was too short and too silly for someone my age -but it's longer than I remember and didn't look so wannabe-young . I styled it with leggings, rugged/boho mid calf boots, and and an olive wool overcoat, black bag, and a blk/white mcQueen scarf. Old CM earrings that have a burnished finish to match the boots' hardware, and I did a Lisa Eldridge makeup video look complete with a bolder/redder lip (even though it was hidden under a mask). I think I might start wearing lipcolour again - it really perked me up.
To carry on the olive cheetah theme, I changed into a side-zip sweatshirt with the leggings for a night of reading at home. I used wear this uniform of leggings and long top for years and years, but moved away from it in the last 4-5. Dated maybe, but comfy and ok for home
