Oldie Outfits - Day 3

The olive jacket was a birthday gift from DH (I'm noticing a theme here) many years ago, probably 2007-2010. It was from a shop in Santa Barbara CA, where I used to look often at all of the lovely things but felt they were too expensive. It's a heavy linen and my first olive item ever - that I can remember. I like the way the olive jacket matches my Docs "Hell" boots.

This is my last oldie that is in regular rotation in my wardrobe. However, I have some items from the 90's that I was inspired by Katerina to try again. I wanted to see why I am keeping them and how they look on me today. I tried them on yesterday, and was shocked by the shoulder pads, high waists, and wide legs that I used to wear. I found a jacket by Armani that I could see wearing but the rest are really dated.

Bonnie, I like 1,2, 6&8 best. You look great in everything, even the high waists and wide legs and shoulder pads. These look like what I used to wear back then too, but they look dated, not fresh.

bonnie, if you give the dresses and duster a good hack - you're in business. Midi instead of maxi.

#1 is great.

The trousers are actually on trend in a cropped length - do you feel fab in them?

I'm undecided about the '90s shoulder pad jackets. Topshop has brought them back, and Burberry re-released its '80s and early '90s silhouettes brand new for $2,200. Hmmmmmm. What do you think?

Thank you Joy and Angie: It was kind of fun shopping my oldies closet and interesting to see how styles have changed. I think shortening the dresses to midi is a great idea. I'm not sure about wearing the trousers - I look awfully high waisted - maybe if I saw other people wearing them so I don't look strange. I guess I like to blend in while keeping my own style.

Wow, LOVE #7! The fit of the dress looks perfect on you, and I really like the styling with the striped tee/pullover. I suggest shortening the dress--and also the duster-- just a bit. I also love the rounded collar on the jacket in #10. Rounded collars always give a soft and femining vibe,

You do absolutely NOT look "awfully high waisted". But time has changed, and we are used to seeing ourselves and others in other styles. However, it's interesting that styles from the 80s and 90s are making comeback. I have a similar pair of trousers that I consider to wear in a cropped version--have to think more about the right length for me. Look forward to hear what you will do about yours.

Bonnie, you look really great in everything. No 1 is absolutely amazing.
I like all your old pieces a lot. What Angie says are great suggestions. And so exciting that the older silhouettes are having a comeback.
I would say keep it all, but then I am the worst wardrobe editor of all times I love great clothes no matter from which period.

You look desperately on trend in an avant garde way in all of these so I guess it depends what you feel comfortable in and what you don’t but I d be tempted to hang onto all of it!

The Cat: Thank you. I think I will try shortening the two dresses and duster. They are really good quality and still in excellent condition. I'm not sure about the wide leg trousers but now I have to photos to refer to. Let me know what you do with your trousers.

Katerina: Thank you. The 90's were a time when I bought and wore some really quality pieces and I'm really glad I kept them. Maybe they will be back in fashion.

Cardiff girl: Thank you. I think these outfits would confuse people in my neck of the woods - they would work fine in Los Angeles. I am planning to keep them and see what happens in my life.

#1 is fantastic full stop. You look great in the high waisted trousers and white in #3. Would you consider cropping them as Angie mentioned? The jacket in 2 might be a bit big on you? Agree that shortening the dresses and long jacket is the way to go.

As Shevia said #1 is fantastic. I also like #3, you look great in high waisted pants and white blouse is beautiful. Just some correction for the rest and all would be perfect.

Number 1 is my absolute favorite, but the dresses are fab on you too. The high waist pants look very well on you, maybe if you style them with a cropped untucked top you like them more. The jackets look retro to me, not dated.

The long dresses made me think of the late 90s. My niece says the 90s are totally in comeback mode. I love Angie's idea of hacking off the dresses to a midi length. They all look like well made pieces.

In terms of the high waisted pants, I just purchased two pair from Zara very similar to these! Except they are cropped. They are not as well made as yours (of course = Zara). One pair is olive, the other pair is navy.

I like the light colored high waist pants as is, try them uncropped at first? Maybe with a crop top as someone else suggested? Crop the black pants and show your ankles.

I am quite envious of your hair.

I really like both of those dresses. When I first was glancing at your pics I thought they were new purchases!
I think all of these items could still be worn, but of course you have to like them too :). Three things about your style, and why you always look fab:
1) your hair is in good condition and well groomed
2) always a happy smile
3) your garments seem to generally be of high quality. Makes a big difference!
Not that I can talk, I’m the queen of fast fashion.

Ha ha Bonnie, what a blast from the past. I remember pantsuits with trousers and jackets like this. To be honest I would not want to wear it again. I like 1 very much. And yes, shorten the dresses. They fit you wonderful.

To add: trousers for men were also with pleats and very wide. My husband got just rid of the last of them and told me: now they are probably coming back.

#1 is amazing - I love the jacket and boots together! Absolutely gorgeous, I am glad that I am not the only Doc Marten lover.

These are super nice and I understand why you would keep them!
I'm with Angie and Cardiff girl on this: you could wear it now and be at the fine pointe of current trends with the high waist and roomier legs. You look very fab in them.
I personally very much like the slightly masculine feel of the pants' full length, but it would be interesting to see what they look like cropped if you pinned them.
Have you tried them with daintier footwear as well to see the effect? I don't know if you like to wear a little heel, but it would be worth the try if you did.
I am a big fan of your wonderful black jacket. I don't see it as dated. What's more, I find this type of jacket useful with this year's cuts and proportions.
Outfit #2, with the fun sandals, cheery tee, rolled light denim and your beautiful smile looks so current. It's certainly something I would wear today.
Dresses are all fab. My favorite one is #7, especially how you have styled it with the striped long sleeve tee, and simple, sleek necklace. It's exactly what this dress wants. The coat is of course perfect. I remember owning similar ones and I regret to have gotten rid of them.

Mirjana: Thank you. These items are all about 20 to 25 years old. I kept them because they are so well made. It would be great to update them.

Dianna: Thank you. I'll try the high waisted pants with a crop top, that might be the solution.

CocoLion: From what Angie said your niece is right. I still like the skinny pants but the high rise wide leg pants would be a nice change. I hope you share your new pants as I would like to see how you style them.

jussie: Thank you for your kind comments. I am lucky to have thick hair and to have found hairdresser that understands what I want.

Adriana: Thank you. I probably wouldn't wear these for every day, but I think it might be fun to wear them when we go out. Did your DH still wear the pants or was he just keeping them in case?

krishnidoux: Thank you. I really appreciate you and the others that commented on my oldies. I kind of put them out not knowing what kind of a response I would get, but people have been kind. I actually wore the black jacket on Sunday. We went to two performances (not good planning) on the same day. A matinee opera (Das Rhinegold) and a evening Rock Concert (David Byrne). Dressing for two very different venues was a challenge, but I put the black jacket over my dressy tunic and it actually changed the vibe of my outfit and made it edgier. I think the jacket will be useful!!

You have gorgeous old favorites. I agree with Angie and Cardiff Girl, to make them a bit more current, lose some of the length. The silhouettes are beautiful on you. I especially love your duster! Fab!

another vote for #1 a totally wow! also love #2, and would love to see the jacket from #10 with the jeans from #2....re the high waisted pants in #3, i love the idea of pants like these, but its hard to get used to seeing them again, i'd try the suggestions above to crop them...

THe only item that looks dated to me is the jacket in 10... All other outfits look great on you and I even misunderstood at first thinking this is what you wore this week and then being a bit jealous of your great style . So maybe the maxi dresses and duster are generally very nineties - the exact version looks classic on you. To my eye, the high waisted pants and wider shoulder jackets already look on trend again.
